Ladyslipper Quilt by Stamdl
This is one of my older UFOs which was started in 2002. I remember finding the ladyslipper (Minnesota state flower) fabric in a nearby quilt store and using my lessons learned from my Beginning Quilting class: pick a border fabric that you love and then find fabrics to complement it. Very good advice that I still use today!
I was not very adventurous in my block fabric choices picking 3 marbles and 3 fabrics that pretty much matched the marbles in value. A new lesson learned - too much of one value makes a rather boring block. I must have realized this after piecing because I went bold (lol) with a dark marble for the inner border.
I quilted this using mono thread and then inexplicably never put the binding on until last week.
The pattern is Road to Ireland from the book "Fat Quarter Quilts" by M'Liss Rae Hawley. It's a smallish wall quilt which measures 35" by 46.75". I will hang it in my entryway this spring.
UFO#2 Finished on 1-5-13!
