Description

This was one of my 1st projects when I started quilting in 2002.  I borrowed the book "Quick Country Christmas Quilts" by Debbie Mumm from my Mom and picked this project which is called "Sew Many Santas".  I pieced all the blocks and then set them aside.

Fast forward 10 years...  I think the reason I set them aside back then was because when it came time to trim them they were not uniform sized.  My Inner Perfectionist wasn't happy.  I did invest in a Pfaff after that project which made my piecing improve by leaps and bounds.

At any rate, this fall I trimmed them down and pieced the top.  It's now sandwiched and ready for machine quilting around the blocks and then I'm going to try hand quilting for the first time on the beards and the block backgrounds. It WILL be done by Christmas!

December 28: Finished!  Sewed the button eyes on this morning and finished the hand quilting last night.  LOVE it!!

Pictures

I really enjoyed hand quilting the beards... each one is unique.
I used a mix of jingle bells and old shank buttons for the hat tassels.
The eyes are teeny 1/8" black buttons I found on fabric.com.
Hand quilting underway! I laid the embellishments on for the photo.

Caribousmom Sewnsew Silsbee Seshlaman True Thank you all so much! It's kind of funny, I've been blogging about this project and so far 2 people have bought the book! I can't wait to get it quilted! Each Santa will have teeny 1/8" black button eyes and either a jingle bell or button tassel on their hat. So, it's going to get cuter smile

Caribousmom

I love the idea of buttons and jingle bells!!!

Mymble

Really great- and I love the fabrics you used. It has a wonderful Modern Primitive look ( is there such a style name? ) So glad you put your inner perfectionist in it's place and went ahead with this because it's super!

Cute, cute , cute! MAkes me want to get the book and make one up NOW. I wish there was a freeze button that could buy me another month or 2 before Christmas. There have been so many wonderful Christmas projects on here lately that I want to make!

Oh I agree with Caribousmom the added touches will really make it all the better!!

True Terryt1955 Mymble Caribousmom Thanks for your comments! This is my 1st attempt at hand quilting... I LOVED doing the beard it was just spontaneous and fun. The "trying to keep straight" line quilting was more challenging but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Kathie

Cute, cute, cute! I love Debbie Mumm smile !

Terryt1955

The bells and buttons put this over the top for cuteness.

Darling. I like that some of the Santas are dressed in grey.
