I am doing these same blocks. Great job.
They're fun, aren't they, Carrie?
So cute, love the designs!
Thank you , Bonnie! :)
Ok without the embroidery these blocks are gorgeous...with it they turn into one of the sweetest, prettiest pieces of art I have seen! I love them...how big will this quilt be when done? I am in love with another of your quilts...
Oh I and I went and checked them all out on Flickr!!
Thank you True :)
Each block will finish at 15.75", so without sashing it would be 47.25" X 63"
I think I am probably going to put sashing in this quilt, but we'll see. And I haven't decided yet about a border. So I am thinking it could end up being as big as 81" X 64" or so.
Pretty, pretty colors!
I just love this quilt...and the dragon fly is spectacular! Is someone special getting this or are you keeping it? (or do you need my address;-)!!!)
LOL, Mary! I actually think I'll keep this one...but we'll see. When I first started quilting, I gave away just about every quilt I made and my husband reminded me that it is okay to keep some of them. Good guy! :)
You should definitely keep this one for yourself!
LOL, Rebecca - thank you for that. Sometimes I need a reminder that it is perfectly fine to keep the things we make!
I give away too many...if I had made this one it would not be going anywhere...just amazing!
How did I miss this one? You are one prolific quilter! And yes you should definitely keep this one. I agree with True how the embroidery just adds a whole new layer of wonderfulness (is there such a word?) to this quilt.
Thanks, Terry! I'm a little obsessed laughs
Love it! The embroidery is wonderful and the fabrics just pop in the design- can't wait to see the next installment- and I agree-this one is a keeper:)
Mymble thanks so much! I'm two blocks behind (again) on this one...so I'll be catching up and posting more soon :)
Looking at your new blocks (and old) just made my not good day better:-) thanks
Light bulb just went on! This is what I had in mind when I signed up for the Handstitched Medallion Class. A little embroidery interspersed with pieced blocks. Love the little surprise tucked into the center of each block. And I agree with True , you take one look at this and it makes you very happy. It also makes me want to quilt again which was just the opposite effect the class was having on me. Thanks for the good cheap therapy! Can hardly wait to see the end result so I can pin it in my quilting library. There's no way I'd ever be able to make all the quilts I've pinned but it's wonderful eye candy!
Terryt1955 thank you! Such a nice comment. I'm sorry you are not enjoying the medallion class. I like the small size of these little embroidery blocks...I can stitch one up in one evening while watching television. I have only 5 total left to go before I'm done - then I think I'll sash this one and get it pieced :)
Caribousmom I just spent literally hours over at Clover & Violets blog getting inspired. Thanks so much for telling about their link. Their Embroidery 101 is wonderful!
HAve you ever read the children's book If You Give a Mouse A Cookie? Well that's how I am bouncing from one blog to the next. I must admit though., some times it's hard to disconnect and actually get something done.
LOL Terryt1955 blog hopping is VERY addictive. Glad you had fun over there - they run a fabulous blog :)
These are coming along so nicely. The embroidery is wonderful!
Well I am trying to patiently wait (my toe is tapping...) but it is hot and humid and it makes me quite inpatient I must say;-). It will be exciting and fun to see the rest of your work and then it all done!!!!
I think that bird house may be my new favorite...both are wonderful. And thank you for not making me wait too long;-)
I just do not understand how you can be so multi talented. You must be getting tired of hearing me say, I LOVE IT. You have such a eye for color, I am hoping some of it rubs off on me soon. GREAT JOB!
Oh ya, how many projects to you have going at once?
Thanks Quilt455 (Cathie)! You're making me blush! Oh my, how many projects? Hmmmmm, at least 10, maybe more. I've sort of lost track LOL
Hurry up and finish it so I can pin it. I have so many of yurs that I love that I should just create a separate board for Wendy !
OMH I need one of those Wendy boards what a great idea!! Truly Wendy your eye for color is simply amazing...
OK here we go again with my typing I need a edit button on comments...OMH=OMG honest it does;-)
Love the topiary embroidery.
Thanks Jbr ! I have three blocks to finish and then I can start putting this quilt together YAY!
Caribousmom one more gorgeous block done! How do you get the design you are stitching onto fabric?
Thanks, True . Clover and Violet provide a link to the design for each block which I download as a pdf. Then I carefully cut out the square with the design and center it behind my block. I lay the whole thing on top of a jerry-rigged light box (essentially a plastic box with a flashlight inside and turned on), and I then trace the design using a water soluble marker. Once the design is traced onto the fabric, I start stitching...deciding on how to fill things in as I go.
Ok another question any tricks to how keep fabric taunt while do the tracing? And a favorite water soluble marker? As it clearly works as you can see no lines at all!
This is the pen I use True : http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/fine+line+erasable+marking+pen+set.do
I like the fineness of it (which is why you can't see the lines...I haven't washed my blocks yet, but when I do, all the color in the lines will be gone entirely).
As far as keeping the fabric taut - I used a lightweight fusable interfacing and fused it to my fabric before piecing my blocks (just on the fabric that I was going to embroider on)...it gives the fabric a little weight and makes it easy to write on without wrinkling. I have taken to doing this for my labels as well...
Your are so smart...and you even figured where I was going...I want to figure it out for my labels! Never thought of the interacting thank you Caribousmom !
I have just been roaming for hours looking at this sew along and then moving onto other bloggers. I've been to Clover and Viotet's blog before and it has great ideas ! Thanks for the reminder!
P.S. Your blocks are beautiful!
Thanks so much +Kmwilson28 - I love their site and this has been such a fun QAL!
Ingenious putting the light weight interfacing behind the block to be embroidered! 2 more blocks to go before we see the next exciting phase. What color are you going to do the sashing in?
Terryt1955 I can't take credit for the interfacing - that was a recommendation by the QAL host (and she was SO right!!!). I am leaning toward white for sashing...but we'll see!
I can see white as the sashing, definitely, so it will showcase these adorable blocks. True will be so happy too!
Oh love that buzzing bee...it must be exciting to get this far!!
It is exciting, True ! I feel like I've been embroidering these blocks forever LOL! I hope that this weekend I can get the layout done and start piecing the rows...then I have to piece the back (But I'm keeping that really simple this time - I think LOL). This is not a huge quilt, so I really would like to get it all completed by the end of the month...
If you don't chose white for the sashing I will fall over! I can hardly wait to pin this!
well, I certainly do NOT want you to fall over Terryt1955 so I guess I have no choice but to use white LOL
absolutely marvelous- you really are an inspiration!
These are so lovely!
I had every intention to do this QAL and all my materials are waiting for me in bins. Sigh
This is a spectacular piece of art...truly amazing, wonderful, beautiful and breath taking...I just love all of it. And your label and back!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on a wonderful finish:-)
Sixmunchkinstitching Hope you get a chance to do this one at some point - a very satisfying quilt to make!
True Thank you SO much! I am really happy to get this one done and I'm so pleased with it :)
So pretty. I just love all the little embroidered images. Couldn't stop clicking through all of the beautiful close-up shots of your blocks! Beautiful embroidery work!!
I love this quilt. Your fabric taste is impeccable!!!!!
@caribousmom, I certainly hope to get to it. It's something I want to make for myself since it's made with my favorite colors! Maybe after some other commitments are finished. :)
Oh Caribousmom...ya outdid yourself on this one. Each of your quilts is more beautiful than the one before. Love the colors and contrast in the design....not to mention the embroidery!
Your quilt came out gorgeous! I didn't have the patience to read the comments before me because some of them were a little too long :) I pinned the QAL on my Pinterest board so I will be able to do it in the near future. Just got some very awesome color embroidery cottons at Jo-Ann last week and this way I have a selection of colors to get started :) Thanks for sharing such a pretty work!
Sixmunchkinstitching I think this works as a block of the month kind of a project - then it feels less overwhelming with all the hand stitching. Good luck!!
Katisquilting LOL re: the comments!! I can't wait to see your quilt - I hope you'll post "in progress" photos once you get started!
This is just beautiful! I have all the fabric and supplies ready to go, just waiting for after the holidays .
Kathie Thank you! I can't wait to see your quilt...I think this would be a perfect project for the cold winter months :)
Wow, you continue to impress me. This is beautiful. You hand work is as beautiful as the quilt itself. Glad you got it finished before leaving. Thinking of you my friend
Quilt455 I really wanted to get one last "finish" in before leaving, Cathie - I was determined! Thank you for the good thoughts. Kip and I got here and went to bed - slept 4 hours and are now up...but we'll be in bed early tonight!!
Oh my. I love the embroidery! And now I suddenly feel like my stash is lacking this fabric! I'm diggin the color scheme.
