Description

This is where I will post all the pictures of the blocks I receive for January from Newbee Quilters Hive#1. It's my month as Queen!! :crown:

I have asked for scrappy log cabin blocks in bright cheerful colors. I will update as I work on it and put it together. Stay tuned!! :)

(**Some photos have turned out terribly....so, I apologize for the blurry & poorly lit photos.)

February 10th: Ok, so I've received most of my blocks and have laid them out on my design wall and started playing around with my order and layout. (Don't pay much attention to my *ahem* "design wall". I needed something so I had a package of batting that was bad out of the bag...thin and warped in many spots....so I just tacked it up on a wall. That creates lots of waves at the bottom heh) The blank spot is a holding place for the last block. Photo #1 was my first layout, just a random layout with colors and values intermingled. Photo #2 is my second option, placed in value order. Going from the lightest in value to darkest; from the top left corner to the bottom right. I chose layout #2. I'm absolutely loving it! blocks are all 12.5" square atm.

February 13th: I started adding the borders and wonkifying my blocks! Yes, wonkifying is a word!! :D ha! In my layout I had them placed in a wonky style that I just loved. The final blocks won't be quite as wonky sadly...I should have added thicker borders. As it is, I only used 3" borders so I can only make the blocks slightly wonky or I won't be able to square them up properly. Oh well...live and learn. Blocks, with the borders added, are now 16.5" square.

February 17th: I've begun adding the sashing strips. This quilt is getting quite large! I'm planning on adding 4" sashing strips in between all the blocks and then will have a final border around the edges. The side borders will be 8" and the top and bottom will be 12". I think this will be queen sized or so when it's all finished. :)

February 19th: All the sashing strips have been added between all the blocks. I just have the outside borders left and then the top will finished and I can start on the backing. With the terrible weather, there wasn't an opportunity to take it out to get a full shot of it, so I just threw it over my sewing table in front of the window to get an updated picture. Can't quite see the setting and scale very well, but after the outside borders have been added (and the weather settles down) I'll try to get a full photo.

February 21st: I updated the title to reflect the quilt finally being named. "All my friends have cabin fever" fit far too perfectly to pass it up. Naming credit goes to +Carolmarie (Thanks lady!! :)
I made the label for the quilt yesterday. Still waiting for the weather to cooperate, the bitter cold and wind do not make anyone in this house want to go out and hold this guy up for me to photograph!! ;) lol I've begun working on the back...will update with that soon! :)

Also...I need help naming this bad boy!! Please kick in some suggestions and ideas!! I'm terrible at naming quilts.... and I need something good for this one. :)

This is going to be gorgeous...now you know how hard it is for me to wrap my head around truly scrappy and then I look at this and all I see is beautiful and wonderful! Amazing... Names hmm... "Quilters Around the House/Cabin" (we are from all over and it is a log cabin;-); "Stash it with Love" (all made from stash); I will keep thinking...

AllPatchedUp

I can't wait to finish sewing the sashing in so that I can take it outside and get some 'good' photos of it. These don't do it justice. I do think I should have gone with a deeper grey for the sashing, would have set off the colors better...but I was impatient. :P

I adore 'scrappy' quilts and always admire them so, but getting something that is truly 'scrappy' myself has always been a challenge. I end up playing around too much and the end result isn't really...well, scrappy. LOL So, this was a good first step for me...having everyone help me to really scrap it up. ;)

Loving the name ideas True !! Loving them. Naming is my large failing as a quilter I tell ya!! rofl

Terryt1955

This is so cool seeing all the blocks on your design wall. I always wondered how the wonky look was achieved so it's neat seeing the progress. I'm terrible at names but have relied on True in the past so I'd go with her suggestions! As for the color of the grey sashing they sure do look deep and rich to me. Any darker and you's be using black... I think the grey sets the blocks off very nicely!

AllPatchedUp

Thank you Terryt1955 ! I've already told True she's going to be my go-to-namer!!! :D rofl She's just gifted in that area! :)

The wonkiness is easily obtained, I'll have to post a how-to. I do love the blocks set that way, tho wish I'd have thought ahead to how wonky I wanted them. lol

The grey is photographing much deeper than it actually is. It's Kona in Steel Grey, which matched the greys in the blocks nicely. But after starting the construction, I wish I had selected the grey that was a shade deeper...would have looked like what you're seeing in the photograph ...in real life. ;)

Silsbee

This is looking so beautiful. I love this Bee.

AllPatchedUp

Thanks Silsbee :)

Capetowngirl

This is going to be stunning and I love the wonky effect. I can't do scrappy as I need things to be just so, but I love the effect. Maybe something to work on.

Rebeccajeffsmith

This is going to be "sew" pretty! I can't wait for my month!

Chandra

This looks great, I love to see all the bee blocks rolling in!

AllPatchedUp

Capetowngirl I'm the same way...usually I fiddle with things so much there's no way I could consider them 'scrappy'. It's tough for me to do, and definitely something I too am working on. You're not alone! :D

AllPatchedUp

Rebeccajeffsmith Thank you!! It is definitely fun when it's your month. ;)

While it's been fun for me to receive my blocks and work on this, I'm looking forward to sewing something for all of you! :)

AllPatchedUp

Carolmarie Thank you! I was never a namer...not because I didn't know, but because I honestly stink at it. ROFL

You came up with some GREAT names!! I had to chuckle at 'All my friends have cabin fever'...Curt got a good snicker out of it too! lol I like that one, and like "My Patched up Cabin" as well...I gotta love anything referring to my nickname here. ;)

It's a good thing I have friends here who will forever more be called upon to help me name my quilts! :P

AllPatchedUp

Chandra Thanks!

Jenniffier

It looks amazing.

AllPatchedUp

Thanks so much Jenniffier :)

True

Carolmarie OMG I love these names!!

True

Oh I love the sashing... I want to buy some gray and have it to use for future what color is the darker one coal? I think you told me but cannot find it now...

AllPatchedUp

True Well, there's charcoal and coal. both are a bit deeper than the steel grey, but the coal is very close. It was charcoal I was after. ;)

AllPatchedUp

True And she did didn't she!?! ( Carolmarie that is)

Rebeccajeffsmith

I like Patched up cabins. Very clever!

Existitchialism

BEAUTIFUL! :)

Slicksister

Oh this is going to be bee you ti full when it is finished. My vote goes to Patched Up Cabins!

True

Carolmarie you do it very well I am going to have you name mine! I love thinking of the names and usually come to me while sewing them. But yours are really, really good!

AllPatchedUp

Thank you Slicksister & Existitchialism ! :)

AllPatchedUp

Oh, and I'm really leaning towards either "My Patched Up Cabin" or "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever". So, keep the votes coming ladies! :)

Quilt455

This looks great! Love the names too

AllPatchedUp

Quilt455 Thank you!! :)

True

Allpatchedup I love both of these names so I am no help...the one I love as it has your name in it; the other I love since I live in Maine and made your block in middle of winter so cabin fever so fits;-)

Caribousmom

Wow, this is one gorgeous quilt top! I love the dark gray you are using for sashing and those blocks really pop! Beautiful! I like "All my friends have cabinfever" LOL

AllPatchedUp

Thanks Caribousmom ! :)

I too was stuck between the two names. I love one because it incorporates my name, but the other makes me giggle and it seems to fit more of a group theme, and with this being a bee quilt and all.... ;) So, I think it'll be "All my friends have cabin fever" for that reason.

Tho if/when I make another log cabin, I already know what name I'll be using!! :D (yep, I'm putting it on reserve!! LOL)

AllPatchedUp

Carolmarie It's well deserved praise!

AllPatchedUp

True lol I have the exact same thoughts!!! A January bee quilt....yep, not sure it could get more fitting! ;)

Terryt1955

HAha... "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever " is a riot! Love the dark gray sashing. It's coming togehter so nicely!!

AllPatchedUp

Terryt1955 I know...what a perfect name for this bad boy! :)

And, thanks, It's really starting to look like a quilt! All borders and sashing are on now so the top is completed. I'll be trying to get a photo of the whole thing once the weather cooperates. I'm beginning to work on the back now. :)

Terryt1955

Do tell! What are your ideas for the
back? I find the back to be more challenging than the front.Probably because it's all improv which freezes me.

AllPatchedUp

Oh the back will be a surprise!! ;) I had an idea and now I'm running with it. I will put up a photo when it's complete tho, promise! :)

AllPatchedUp

Terryt1955 Oops, forgot to tag my reply! See above :P

Tracy

I am loving how your quilt is turning out. Now I want to know what you are up to on the back of the quilt. You can tell me, I won't tell anyone. :)

Jodyrose

Wow!!! I agree with all the other posters and living in gray gray and did I say gray Indiana, I agree with Terry " All My Friends Have Cabin Fever" is perfect. I love the gray too!

AllPatchedUp

Tracy Thank you!! :) Good to hear you're trustworthy and all....I'll share the back with you in a day or two. :P lol

AllPatchedUp

Jodyrose Thanks!! I hear ya on all the gray! I always refer to the doom and gloom of Wisconsin, so I know exactly what you mean. lol

Thesewingchick

Such pretty blocks! What a talented group :-) I love that you made them a bit wonky heart heart Looks like I am a bit late on the name the quilt conversation, but I stink at naming quilts anyway. The one you chose is perfect.

AllPatchedUp

Thesewingchick Thanks!! You all sent me some beautiful blocks to work with...that makes creating a beautiful quilt very easy. ;)

I love a little wonky in my quilts! lol I've had the idea to do this with a quilt for over a year so when this one came up, I knew I had the perfect setting idea. And I'm glad it did....turned out just perfect. :)

Laweigel

Love your quilt with the gray.
Wonky Wisconsin Cabins (say that 3 times fast)

Laweigel ROFL!! Wonky Wisconsin Cabins would indeed have been a mouthful!! That's a good one! :D Thanks, I have developed a strong fondness for grey lately. It's becoming my go to neutral of choice!

Firetones

This is gorgeous. The sashing is perfect (and I like "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever" as the name. How fun!

stitchcat

AllPatchedUp

Stitchcat Thanks!! Working on the backing now. Will be picking up some batting and the binding so I can finish it quickly. :)

Capetowngirl
