This is going to be gorgeous...now you know how hard it is for me to wrap my head around truly scrappy and then I look at this and all I see is beautiful and wonderful! Amazing... Names hmm... "Quilters Around the House/Cabin" (we are from all over and it is a log cabin;-); "Stash it with Love" (all made from stash); I will keep thinking...
I can't wait to finish sewing the sashing in so that I can take it outside and get some 'good' photos of it. These don't do it justice. I do think I should have gone with a deeper grey for the sashing, would have set off the colors better...but I was impatient. :P
I adore 'scrappy' quilts and always admire them so, but getting something that is truly 'scrappy' myself has always been a challenge. I end up playing around too much and the end result isn't really...well, scrappy. LOL So, this was a good first step for me...having everyone help me to really scrap it up. ;)
Loving the name ideas True !! Loving them. Naming is my large failing as a quilter I tell ya!! rofl
This is so cool seeing all the blocks on your design wall. I always wondered how the wonky look was achieved so it's neat seeing the progress. I'm terrible at names but have relied on True in the past so I'd go with her suggestions! As for the color of the grey sashing they sure do look deep and rich to me. Any darker and you's be using black... I think the grey sets the blocks off very nicely!
The wonkiness is easily obtained, I'll have to post a how-to. I do love the blocks set that way, tho wish I'd have thought ahead to how wonky I wanted them. lol
The grey is photographing much deeper than it actually is. It's Kona in Steel Grey, which matched the greys in the blocks nicely. But after starting the construction, I wish I had selected the grey that was a shade deeper...would have looked like what you're seeing in the photograph ...in real life. ;)
This is looking so beautiful. I love this Bee.
This is going to be stunning and I love the wonky effect. I can't do scrappy as I need things to be just so, but I love the effect. Maybe something to work on.
This is going to be "sew" pretty! I can't wait for my month!
This looks great, I love to see all the bee blocks rolling in!
Capetowngirl I'm the same way...usually I fiddle with things so much there's no way I could consider them 'scrappy'. It's tough for me to do, and definitely something I too am working on. You're not alone! :D
Rebeccajeffsmith Thank you!! It is definitely fun when it's your month. ;)
While it's been fun for me to receive my blocks and work on this, I'm looking forward to sewing something for all of you! :)
Carolmarie Thank you! I was never a namer...not because I didn't know, but because I honestly stink at it. ROFL
You came up with some GREAT names!! I had to chuckle at 'All my friends have cabin fever'...Curt got a good snicker out of it too! lol I like that one, and like "My Patched up Cabin" as well...I gotta love anything referring to my nickname here. ;)
It's a good thing I have friends here who will forever more be called upon to help me name my quilts! :P
It looks amazing.
Oh I love the sashing... I want to buy some gray and have it to use for future what color is the darker one coal? I think you told me but cannot find it now...
True Well, there's charcoal and coal. both are a bit deeper than the steel grey, but the coal is very close. It was charcoal I was after. ;)
I like Patched up cabins. Very clever!
Oh this is going to be bee you ti full when it is finished. My vote goes to Patched Up Cabins!
Carolmarie you do it very well I am going to have you name mine! I love thinking of the names and usually come to me while sewing them. But yours are really, really good!
Oh, and I'm really leaning towards either "My Patched Up Cabin" or "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever". So, keep the votes coming ladies! :)
This looks great! Love the names too
Allpatchedup I love both of these names so I am no help...the one I love as it has your name in it; the other I love since I live in Maine and made your block in middle of winter so cabin fever so fits;-)
Wow, this is one gorgeous quilt top! I love the dark gray you are using for sashing and those blocks really pop! Beautiful! I like "All my friends have cabinfever" LOL
Thanks Caribousmom ! :)
I too was stuck between the two names. I love one because it incorporates my name, but the other makes me giggle and it seems to fit more of a group theme, and with this being a bee quilt and all.... ;) So, I think it'll be "All my friends have cabin fever" for that reason.
Tho if/when I make another log cabin, I already know what name I'll be using!! :D (yep, I'm putting it on reserve!! LOL)
True lol I have the exact same thoughts!!! A January bee quilt....yep, not sure it could get more fitting! ;)
HAha... "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever " is a riot! Love the dark gray sashing. It's coming togehter so nicely!!
Terryt1955 I know...what a perfect name for this bad boy! :)
And, thanks, It's really starting to look like a quilt! All borders and sashing are on now so the top is completed. I'll be trying to get a photo of the whole thing once the weather cooperates. I'm beginning to work on the back now. :)
Do tell! What are your ideas for the
back? I find the back to be more challenging than the front.Probably because it's all improv which freezes me.
Oh the back will be a surprise!! ;) I had an idea and now I'm running with it. I will put up a photo when it's complete tho, promise! :)
I am loving how your quilt is turning out. Now I want to know what you are up to on the back of the quilt. You can tell me, I won't tell anyone. :)
Wow!!! I agree with all the other posters and living in gray gray and did I say gray Indiana, I agree with Terry " All My Friends Have Cabin Fever" is perfect. I love the gray too!
Tracy Thank you!! :) Good to hear you're trustworthy and all....I'll share the back with you in a day or two. :P lol
Jodyrose Thanks!! I hear ya on all the gray! I always refer to the doom and gloom of Wisconsin, so I know exactly what you mean. lol
Such pretty blocks! What a talented group :-) I love that you made them a bit wonky Looks like I am a bit late on the name the quilt conversation, but I stink at naming quilts anyway. The one you chose is perfect.
Thesewingchick Thanks!! You all sent me some beautiful blocks to work with...that makes creating a beautiful quilt very easy. ;)
I love a little wonky in my quilts! lol I've had the idea to do this with a quilt for over a year so when this one came up, I knew I had the perfect setting idea. And I'm glad it did....turned out just perfect. :)
Love your quilt with the gray.
Wonky Wisconsin Cabins (say that 3 times fast)
...I love "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever"!
I love the creative way you did this quilt.. set together with dark gray and wonky placement!! Love love love it.
Laweigel ROFL!! Wonky Wisconsin Cabins would indeed have been a mouthful!! That's a good one! :D Thanks, I have developed a strong fondness for grey lately. It's becoming my go to neutral of choice!
This is gorgeous. The sashing is perfect (and I like "All My Friends Have Cabin Fever" as the name. How fun!
Looks great! Can hardly wait to see it when it's all done!
Stitchcat Thanks!! Working on the backing now. Will be picking up some batting and the binding so I can finish it quickly. :)
So glad you went for this name. Was my favourite. Ad what a stunner the final quilt is going to be.
Well thank you Capetowngirl ! Was certainly my favorite as well, and the most fitting as well! :) (cuz all my friends really do seem to have cabin fever! lol ;)
Awesome. Love everything about it. Nice job.
Love the name and your layout - you inspire me!
I this quilt! What an awesome set of blocks you received. The white around the blocks, little bit of wonkiness and the gray sashing are all perfect!
Thanks so much Rebecca . :) I'm loving how it's coming together (always good when what you picture in your head actually works out!! LOL)
Very pretty. P.S. this is your mother on Jo's computer. I do get around.lol Jo also thinks its pretty.
Love it! so happy and bright. The gray just make those blocks pop!
Thanks Quilt455 !! I'm hoping to get back to working on this soon. Almost finished with my mystery swap item, and with my new machine, I'm itching to quilt this bad boy! :) So, hopefully there'll be some updates this week.
Nice choice with the grey sashing.
