DId you already make the January block?!
Terryt1955 No but hope to tomorrow or Friday...I made one for the other bee...Bee Biased today:-)
Wow, you are getting a great jump start. I am so over entertaining 11 house guests. I want to break out my sewing machine and spread my crap all over the house again!
Terryt1955 LOL that is what I did yesterday! Also organizing quilting things... Love the holidays but glad to be moving towards normal. And now a snow storm!!!
I hope you don't lose power. Or do you have a generator for your machine?!
Terryt1955 LOL generator me??!! No I am afraid of them and since it would be all up to me don't have one. So I pray when we lose electricity which is often BUT so far in 12 years (knock on wood) only once for a long time that was an issue. But we were lucky and our power stayed on despite a foot of snow!
Sounds beautiful! Maybe you can take a picture for all of us snow-deprived
That is so cute!
Love it!! I knew it was going to be a challenge for you True , and I'm happy to say you did fabulous!! :)
Allpatchedup thank you and I liked the challenge and learned some things along the way so thank you! It will be so fun to see the quilt you come up with...
Good to hear True !
I'm excited! Had the idea of what I wanted to do a few months back when I came up with the bee idea. And have now seen a few people doing the same thing, so guess it was a good idea! LOL :)
Allpatchedup One of things I think is so interesting about the whole bee concept is while the sewing of a block may not be a challenge to one person (but maybe to another) that does not mean other aspects of the block aren't...so I am finding each pushes us to grow in some way and love it!
Love it True
True, it is lovely! A foot of snow? That sounds like a lot of work to get it cleared! The Fig Tree quilt is lovely. Log cabin is my favourite block due to being so versatile.
Sewnsew missed this post.... a couple of winters ago we got between 8-15 inches of snow each storm and they came once or twice a week. Even for us that was just way over the top. My poor plow guy had no where to put the snow and my son had to dig paths for the dog (who is a lab and @ 70 lbs.). You could not see her as she ran through them it was so deep. I will try and find a picture and post on here! This year it has come and then melted some and then more come so not bad...but the cold oh MY! And Carolmarie thank you.
What a great block! I love the colors!
Your February block is beautiful!
LOL I've done the same before True ...hitting my own link. ;)
Your block is gorgeous, love that purple fabric! :)
Your weather seems to mimic ours as well. I remember that year with so much snow there was no where to put it!!! It was crazy.
It's always the cold that bothers me tho...gets into my hands and they just don't want to work. And this year, you're right, it's been downright freezing!! I don't want to even think about going outside...it's cold enough inside!!!
Allpatchedup thank you I love this whole collection the best tone on tones! I have to say I thought I was going to freeze to death simply getting my mail after work last week! Warmer for few days but they are telling is Feb. may be an ice box:-(
True ... That's what I have kids for (one of many reasons)!! I send them out to get the mail when it's cold snicker. I've heard the same...this is just going to be one cold year. We've been babied with the last few mild winters. ;)
Allpatchedup LOL my son usually gets the mail but he had class and left before it came and got home much later than I did (and since it was already dark and we live in the country with no lights...) but let me tell you I was quite indignant about it when he got home;-)
LMAO!!! I hear ya. I have 4 to do my bidding so there's usually at least one of em running around here. I tell ya, when they're all gone and off on their own, Mr. Man better get a whole lot better at following directions!!
Love the purple tonal. I've never seen it before, do you remember who makes it? And against that green is perfect. Not too limey! I'm afraid my greens tend toward the lime shade. Your block is beautiful. Now I have to go back to my stash and rethink my combo's I pulled. You set the bar high!
OMG those snow pictures look like something out of The Shining!! And your son attacks the tunnels with the precision of a quilter! How in the world did he make those walls at a 90 degree cut?! Tell him I'm impressed.
Terryt1955 LOL ok that path HE did not do...it was done with a snow blower by the guy who came to clean off our roof. When my son does it he uses a shovel- you can kind of see one of his paths in the front of the pile of snow. After he saw the snow blower one he wanted on to use;-) I must say when I walked out and saw that path and how deep it was I immediately came in for my camera I was stunned.
Thank you on block... the collection is by Fabri Quilt and is called Connections. It is also the tone on tones I am using in my 60th birthday quilt. I bought several of the colors and there are some others I think I may order as they work well with so many things and are really nice fabric to work with as well. I realized I do not have a lot of green in my stash! (I do have a three from the Connections collection but wanted to use something different). I know yours will be gorgeous:-)
Thank goodness he didn't have to do all that with a shovel!! Poor boy would have been at it for days! ;) lol Takes mine a while just to shovel the sidewalk...ok, that's cuz they're slow and play more than shovel. heh He still had a lot to shovel, good thing he had help. :)
True...I love love your scrappy log cabin. I want to make a scrappy wonky log cabin quilt some day. Love seeing all these blocks
Nexxus831 thanks so much it was a challenge as I do not typically go this scrappy but good for me!
Carolmarie No that is not this year that is a couple years ago- right now we have almost none as it rained and melted last night!
I love the purple fabric you picked. But you were too quick, it is not Feb yet. hehehe Your hive partner is going to love this one
Carolmarie Actually I like some snow...not three feet but having a foot or so always on the ground during winter works!
Carolmarie DITTO for me! I lived in hot sticky weather for 24 yrs in FL and I am so happy to live back home again in 4 seasons! And despite the challenges True has, our winters are not as severe here that they were when I was a kid. Last year we really had very little winter snow and this is year is not much better so far.
TRUE: love the block!!!
Jodyrose And Carolmarie so agree with both of you! I love the four seasons, hate hot and humid and love Maine! Two years ago the snow was overwhelming but that is atypical and I have not seen that much snow in years. And yes things have changed so much weather wise over the years:-(. So enjoy the break from the yard! And thanks Josyrose!
picking my jaw up off the floor OMG!!!! The maximum today is 100 F. I am sitting in the air conditioning trying to imagine that much snow!!!!! How do you get the snow off the roof and the path?
Oops! I was so boggle eyed over the snow that I forgot to say how much I like your blocks. The animal fabrics are really sweet in the log cabin block. The purple and green go great together in the other one.
Sewnsew LOL actually that year (and one other when I lived in Massachusetts when my son was 4) my jaw dropped at all the snow as it was sooooo much! I grew up in Michigan and as a child we had tons but as an adult those were the winters I will remember for snow. I hired someone to do roof as we could not do it alone and he has a roof rake that they make for this purpose and he pulls it off the lower roofs. I was not here when he did it but my son said it looked like an avalanche! And it some how used a snow blower for that walk...again not sure how must have made it so part the shoots snow out was headed into yard? Not sure but when I came home and saw it was stunned. If it was 100 I would die as we have no air conditioning... I am most unhappy above 80 as I live in the north for a reason and avoiding heat and humidity is one reason! Thanks for comments on blocks as well:-)
True I'd die from exposure if I lived where it snowed so much! lol When it snows here in Western Australia, it makes the six o'clock news. A few years ago I was living in the south of the state where it ocassionally snows.....on top of a mountain range....and I was driving at night when it started sleeting. I stopped the car and got out.....It was an opportunity too good to miss! I'm always glad of the air conditioning at home, as what we have at the school where I work stops working efficiently if it is humid or as the temperature rises towards 100. Not nice! The school where I work is in a low socio-economic area and the majority of families don't have air condtioning, so the little munchkins in my class never get a break!
Hey you pulled off the wonky house quilte nicely!! I would be proud if I were you. Did you paper piece it? I was checking out the various tutorials but haven't attempted it yet.
Your wonky house is adorable! :) My poor house has been sitting on my table half finished since Friday now lol. Think today she'll get a roof! ;)
Ooh. Love, love, love. It's just what I was hoping for. Thank you. Now, go put it in the mail!!
Carolmarie Thesewingchick Allpatchedup Terryt1955 Thank you all and Tessa I am so glad it is what you wanted...made me nervous for sure. I will hopefully mail in morning. And Terry I did not paper piece I used Tessa's tutorial which is very good and easy to follow. I did make two and hated first one...so started over but the first one gave me the hang of what was needed.
Perfect star and great fabric selection! When I first saw it I thought it was from a blog. I think it's time for you to start one! No on second thought don't, it will take you away from us.
Terryt1955 Thank you - you are so sweet! But no blog in my future...and still so much to learn like those darn points!!
So about those darn points. I was putting together a test star last night and I was getting pissed off at my points not turning out the way I thought they should. Do you press open your seams or press them to the darker side? And after making your HST's do you then use a scant 1/4" when putting the "rows" together? Inquiring minds want to know!
Gorgeous star True !
Terryt1955 Yes, after making your HST's you still use a scant 1/4" seam when making your rows and again when sewing your rows together. Basically...scant 1/4" the whole way thru the block! :) I press open, but know others press to the dark....whichever way is more comfortable and works for you is the best way to go. ;)
Terryt1955 As AllPatchedUp describes I use a scant 1/4 seam all the time for everything. I press to dark side but again as Angela says whatever works for you do it...I just match seams so much better if I can nest them. Now when it was all together I pressed final seams open to reduce bulk and get it to lie flatter. If you look closely at two blocks I made of this pattern I had different issues with them...same cutting, same sewing but different places caused my to swear slightly under my breath! Thanks Angela I really liked this block!
Beautiful! Love. :)
Rebeccajeffsmith I am glad I tried to find the most traditional fabrics I had in those colors...when you see it in person you will see blue and "red" are much prettier (IMHO) colors and fabrics than is showing in picture!
Love your June block.
Great bear paw! I have that same "pad" print from the UFO exchange! I promise I won't copy you!
Terryt1955 Someone had good taste!! I have so wanted to use it for something....got it in green too...did you? I cannot recall who sent it now...and thank you.
There's gremlins on this site. I KNOW I remarked on your June block earlier today. It's worth repeating, love the fabric you chose to give it a more modern feel. I have the same fabric you used for the "pad" and got it thru the FQ UFO group. I promise I won't copy you!
Hahaha that's what I get for not refreshing the page. Here I was accusing the site for having gremlins when it really was just crazy bat lady!
Oh and we got the fabric from Stamdl. I was going stash shopping today and mine was still in the baggie she sent it in with her note.
True You are welcome... it's from Parisville by Tula Pink and it looks GREAT in your pretty block!
LOVE my block! YAY!!! With all this crap going on with the Round Robin I didn't get a chance to see this until now. This will be a beautiful addition to my Great granny quilt! (And I'm so glad there isn't a snippet of brown).
Terryt1955 I am so glad!!! And I actually have very little brown in my stash so you were pretty safe all along!;-)
LOL! I wasn't worried a second with you.
OMG I can't believe how quick you are! That means I'll get it by the weekend and can start putting the blocks from last month and this month up on my design wall. YAY!!!
Pretty October block!!! You are so fast at getting these done!
Terryt1955 You know me...it weighs on my brain until done...so best just to do it. And this one worried me a bit and I once I picked fabric could not wait to see it done.
Wow- beautiful- the purple against those blues has such a striking impact- very nice!
Oh yes...they really are wonderful together...so many possibilities!
Oh you little stinker! I wanted to use purple for my star. Oh well there's room for more than one purple star right? And I love this color combination also. It's so rich...
I know what you mean True . I can so see an entire quilt of all purple stars and just varying the background blues!
I just love your purple star. I am used to seeing stars in white, this is really a nice change. Hmmm, another idea of yours to steal.
Beautiful November block. I love the color combination!
That purple fabric is awesome!
oooh, love the churn dash, the bracelets, the other fabrics.. a happy block.
Perfect color combinations!!!! Love it, love it, love it!!! Where do buy fabrics from?
Readerowl I am so glad...I had ordered the bracelets with some other fabric and decided to wait for it to arrive for your block as thought it was a great tone on tone!
Kamilalux thank you...I get most my fabric online through various stores since my LQS does not have a lot of what I want. I use Hawthorne Threads, Intrepid Threader, Fat Quarter Shop, Tennessee Quilts, Stash Modern to name a view of my favorites.
Beautiful red and white Churn Dash block. My favorite block done in my favorite color.
Charwirfs thank you...but color wise it is really a deep orange with pink and white (lighting was juts bad at night). These are the colors the Queen (readerowl) asked for...
Love what you did here and I LOVE the bracelet material for the background. Just the right balance between all the scales of fabric.
I must remember to get some that has large scale to it. All mine are tiny little leaves or dots. What a difference the large scale makes!
