Description

I just started this quilt for my teenage nephew from fabric I received in a swap earlier this year. I've added in a solid black and couple of patterned fabrics from my stash. I hope to have this quilt done in time for his birthday in March.

Looks like I am going to enlarge the original quilt top and make this a queen instead of a twin. I still need to add a row of larger pieced blocks on one side or the other. I am liking it a bit more. This is thanks to a suggestion made by a fellow quilter in my guild. It is great to ping ideas off of others

I have too many WIPs so I decided to combine two - sorta.

The technique in the Feb Pretty in Patchwork: Holidays Sew Along reverse applique pillow inspired me to try to make a skull block for the back of this quilt. I like the raw edges of skull - I know it will look better once washed and more frayed. Not perfect but I've never done reverse applique before. Bonus - it's all scraps. He does look a little sad though. I may give this another shot.

Finished. It's still not my favorite quilt but I learn something from every one I make.

Great fabrics for a boy and they'll work really nicely in the pattern you've chosen.

Terryt1955 Thanks . I'm not loving it yet. I hope it grows on me.

Thanks, Carolmarie . Here's to hoping it will turn out well smiles

You just have to remember that it's for a boy and they definitely don't like the same fabric as we do. He's going to love it.

Thanks for the pep talk Terryt1955 smile

True

So agree great fabric and quilt for boy...it will work when all done...I always find my quilts grow on me with each "turn" they make!

What a great boy quilt! Sometimes the challenge of working outside our comfort zone can be refreshing.

Janquilter Thanks, I agree completely.
