LOL Terryt1955 you crack me up! ;) You did great...I LOVE this block!!!
And, you are NOT weird, I tend to have a hard time using all busy prints myself and have a healthy stock of solids and less busy prints in my stash for that exact reason. If only you could ask my boyfriend how many times I said (usually thru gritted teeth) "AHHHH I gotta take this apart and start over, it's too much!!" while I was making my own block...and I did end up taking it apart twice. ahem But honestly, it just all somehow comes together in the end, you'll see. :)
You want to hear something really funny? Now that I see it in a picture I'm saying to myself not busy enough! There's no rest for the neurotic I tell you!
I love it...
ROFL Terryt1955 That's too funny!
It is often recommended in the quilting world that you look at your work thru a photo before deciding on a final layout/etc. It helps you to see things that you may not see while just looking at it. I do this all the time before I sew my blocks together for quilt tops....more than once it has saved me from having the same fabrics side-by-side or too much of a certain color in one area. And yes, that's things I missed when just looking at them straight on. (Don't ask me how or why it works, but it does. lol)
Hey Terryt1955... Bet you can make this block into a pillow!! Hahah...block is really nice! Just couldn't resist!
Allpatchedup I do the same thing now even after have layout done for things like border options, do I like fabrics together, etc. as you are so right for some reason it gives you a really different perspective. It is funny as for the flannel quilt I am doing I did not take a picture, and look at it, as I was just not that worried about it but now I see it if I had would have moved some of the blocks around. Again for this particular quilt I do not care but it reinforced using my camera as one of my tools!
Carolmarie don't you touch your block! I just did it this way because I'm weird. But the block is supposed to be gloriously scrappy. I just am incapable!
Oh no! Nonono....I created some confusion. Carolmarie , I asked for scrappy blocks for a reason and that's exactly what I want!!! I have a hard time doing scrappy or busy myself...It's something I really have to push myself hard to do, thus why I asked all of you to help me. :) I have another scrappy project that I'm about to start and that will be my project to push myself thru (and hopefully past) my busy~ness issue. ROFL :)
I just wanted Terry to know that she wasn't the only one with that particular issue. ;)
LOL Any and all scrappy projects that I've done up to this point, have never been truly scrappy. I always have to coordinate ....or at least have controlled randomness. ;) So this coming project, I'm laying all control at the door and will be just reaching into the bin, grabbing blindly and sewing. It'll be interesting to see how I do with it and how it turns out.
Its a great block.
She has decided and I'm working on a tute now...I did ask her to wait until the week before Feb to post all her info tho. I know you're all excited and itching to get at it, but I need to try to keep a schedule in place to ensure everyone has a chance to do things at the pace we set up. I don't want those that are busy in the beginning of the month to feel rushed or like they're falling behind. So, it's coming, promise, you just have to be patient. ;)
Well that sounds fair. I know I haven't even started the Polar Bear from the Holiday Patchwork group and every time I see a new one posted I feel a little bit anxious.
lol Exactly Terryt1955 . I'm trying to prevent panic attacks here!!
I've had a couple people message me afraid they were running behind already...I had to remind them they were fine. (at the time it was only the first week!! ;)
So, I just want to keep everything tidy and on schedule....puts people at ease. And, I'm sure the things will calm down some after a few months when the excitement wears a bit. :)
HA! You're dealing with quilters. We are known for being a little OCD so anxiety comes with the territory. I never knew I was crazy until I started quilting. My kids always knew but I was in denial. Now it's clearly out in the open!
Not that just you are crazy....we all are!! lol
Great block Terryt1955 . You did well letting your 'crazy' side go. ;)
Both are beautiful blocks...I loved the first but am glad that you were able to let go and see the process thru. Great job. :)
Glad you like it! I'm glad I did a second one too. It was actually enjoyable this time around. Crazy is very good!
Great! Enjoyable is fantastic! :)
Terryt, this is a great block I really like both of them. Very pretty fabrics.. I have yet to be able to make a truly scrappy quilt myself. I usually have to have everything matchy, matchy. I have been watching the blocks from Hive #1 and can not wait to see how Angela is going to put it all together. I am in Hive#3 and we start the 1st of Feb. And yes, I did pick the block that you were so kind to resize for me. Angela did the tutorial and True named the block. So I too am entering the world of scrappy quilts too.
What beautiful straight seams you have there! A thing of beauty to look at for sure.
Quilt455 Thanks! I'm dying to see how Angela puts it together as well. I hope we don't have t wait long. As far as being matchy matchy, I'm right there with you, STILL. Can't help it. Yay for Hive #3 starting up! Are you the queen for Feb?
Thanks everyone. I'm glad the bee has been such a big hit! It's doing as much for me as for all of you. I'll be itching to work on putting my quilt together too. :)
Terryt1955 Yup, I get to go first. I am so, so excited. I can't wait to see the blocks everyone picks when they are queen. I love the blocks the other hives have picked so far. I think we are all going to be learn alot. When are you queen?
Quilt455 Not until August so I'll have plenty of time to change my mind a million times! But it will be great fun to research and re-size blocks until I land on THE one!
I love it! I've done traditional log cabins... now I need to make a scrappy fun one!
