Description

This quilt was given to my grandmother on her wedding day, February 2, 1929, so it would be about 84 years old. Her Aunt Adeline (Ady) made it in Santa Ana, CA. Its in bad shape, but has been well loved! I got the quilt in 1992 and when I saw +Loraclare 's quilt, I couldn't get over how similar they are...maybe it was a kit?

Just amazing - I love these old quilts...so special!

How beautiful!! And yes, it could well have been a kit. I have a book about the garment industry and their scraps...they made them into kits for quilts. I believe the one my grandmother had was also a kit. One of the clues is to look for the same print in many colorways.

I always thought this was a flour/sugar sack quilt? I might research and see what I can come up with

It is of course, likely that it is a feed sack quilt....they were popular during that time also. I was just surprised to find, after reading the book, that many quilts that appear to be feed sacks are actually scraps from dress manufacturers.

Oh, that is interesting, thanks for the info! I will let you know if I come up with any more facts, too.
