I have a rather large collection of old, worn out, retired jeans in my fabric stash and I've finally found something to do with them. I'm making a denim "stained glass" quilt!
The idea is simple; I'm cutting the denim down into 6x6" and 3x3" squares, and sashing them together with 1.5" wide strips of black quilters cotton. I've already nudged into my scrap stash to cut a couple of squares from pretty denim blue cotton prints, and I imagine that will continue.
I already love this quilt. The denim is a real pleasure to work with (so far) and I'm eager to see the finished product. This is also the first time that I'm working with no real plan or direction, and there's something very freeing and low-stress about it. I may even try to incorporate new techniques that I've been wanting to learn, like maybe a little bit of embroidery or cross stitch, just for fun. This is quilting "for play" at its best!
