Description

This quilt is called Carnegie Hall.  Why?  How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice, practice, practice. This is the very first quilt I ever made.  I was asked by my daughter to make a quilt for her new baby but I wasn't a quilter.  Of course she wanted a particular quilt that i had no idea how to make.  With some help form a couple of lovely ladies at an LQS who talked me through the process I grabbed some fabric from my stash and made this quilt as a practice.  The inside chevron part is the pattern my daughter wanted.  I added the borders to make it big enough for me.  I learned a lot working on this quilt - 1/4 seam allowance, HST's, rotary cutting and how to use a quilting guide.  Forty years of actual sewing experience certainly helped.

I quilted the red zig zags with straight line quilting which was fun and easy but after that I was stumped and frustrated so I tossed it under my sewing table and it sat there for 8 months.  I just recently took the plunge and tried FMQ so I dug this out to practice on and it didn't turn out half bad.  Now I have it next to my armchair and use it every day.
