Description

This pattern is from a quilting book I found in a second hand bookstore. The author says it was inspired by the memories of making red heart cutouts for the windows on Valentine's Day. I also did this as a child. In making this quilt I have 4 goals:

  1. Use up some of my red and pink fabric stash and scraps (and try not to buy too much)
  2. See if I can do this as a QAYG project.
  3. Explore more FMQ patterns
  4. Learn how to do consistent HST's (and it looks like there will be many of them!)
If you have any thoughts about doing this as a QAYG or HST techniques please share!

Feb 1/ 13: Gather the stash and read the pattern
Feb 2/13: Get cutting!
Feb 4/13: LQS Quiltalong - keep cutting!
Feb 13/13: All cutting is done and I'm on to the large 12" heart blocks - 5 down and 7 large, 14 medium and 64 small blocks to go! :heart_decoration:
Feb 19/13: Spent the long weekend doing a "in house" quilt retreat... all the large hearts are done and I'm now working on the medium size.

Carolmarie Thanks! At this point I'm still cutting - but I hope to get some nice quilting going once it's pieced hearts

Great selection of fabrics- this should be lovely. It never ceases to amaze me how quilting patterns- at least many of them, never really grow old- we just update them with new fabrics!!! Looking forward to seeing this progress:)

Beautiful fabric choices. I have that book and the authors are great. The hearts are turning out very well.

Carolmarie I updated my picture to indicate that it's just a copy... though I'd be thrilled if my quilt actually looked that good!

Janquilter I've had a few people think the books photo is my actual quilt - so I had to update the picture...

Isn't it wonderful for those long weekends! One can get so much done if the family cooperates. You can never go wrong with hearts (or stars) so this is going to be timeless and very cute with your fabric selection. Can't wait to see more pictures!
