Description

I have 225 potential HST's left over from my Tied and True quilt so I'm playing around with ideas. There's the obvious~ a chevron quilt~ but I don't have enough HST's to make a very big quilt. Then I was cruzing around quilts I had pinned and came upon one that our Threadbias's +Tiffanyray is making based on a tutorial from Sew Crafty Jess. Of course my HST's are a weird size so I'll have to re-scale the block. I believe the tutorial called for a 2 1/2" HST and I have a 3 3/4" trimmed HST. I am also contemplating keeping all the centers the same fabric and am trying to decide if I want a striking difference (black center) or a quieter contrast (2 different shades of gray to choose from).

Any input on what to choose for the center would be greatly appreciated. I love the black but I have a white lab so I'm sure his dog hair will drive me crazy and I'll be constantly wielding a lint roller.I guess I've just eliminated one of the choices....

2/12 Found some more  fabric that I used for the blocks and think I like it as the center! What do you think? It's the taupe polka dot one....

4/14/13 Wow I can't believe 2 months has come and gone since I touched this project. I decided to go for piecing one of the blocks to see if I liked it. Not being use to working with HST's I was bummed at first because I didn't realize that once I sewed all the 1/4" seams all those weird seams would disappear. This is truly a lesson in accurate 1/4'' scant seams. I have enough HST's to make 7 of these blocks and each bock will measure 20" unfinished.

True

I love this fabric and pattern...of the choices for center I think I like light gray BUT...Do you have any of the other fabrics left...any of the prints? As I think they would look good as center... I know I am a pain.

Oh just went to see which of Tiffanyray's quilts this is like...I love hers and it is on my someday list! And I like how different it looks in the different fabrics and colors you have selected:-)

Terryt1955

True , I just posted 2 new pictures showing the same fabric that's left over form the quilt. Do you think there's enough contrast?

True

Terryt1955 I do but that is me...I think it is prettier

Terryt1955

I think I need to cut actual center squares so I can visualize it better. Right now the hunkof fabric isn't doing it for me. I think that's why I like the black because the square is more true to size..... WHy do I have trouble cutting into a hunk of fabric for a measely 7.5" square! Thanks for your input. I never would have thought to use the floral since I was so use to trying to keep it manly enough. But this quilt is for the bonus room so it doesn't matter if it's manly or girly, just functional!

Slicksister

I like all the choices EXCEPT the black. LOL

Terryt1955

Slicksister that's so funny! Now that I've cut actual center squares I'm liking the other options better as well.

Slicksister

Terryt1955 Great minds and all that...! LOL

Juline

I like cream, pattern, gray, black, in that order :). Love the colors.

AllPatchedUp

I like the low volume look and the black kinda throws that off a bit IMO. I too prefer the creams and especially the flowered print. :) Always fun to play with our fabrics!! Gonna be another fabulous quilt, no matter what you decide!

Quilt455

Terryt1955 I going with the light gray. I think that it brighten the gray in the pattern pieces. And i am with Angela, this is going to be beautiful no matter which center fabric you pick

Terryt1955

Thanks everyone ( True , Allpatchedup , Juline , Quilt455 , Slicksister ) for your valued input! I'm going to take a class today and will be on the lookout for some fabric for the center. This morning I'm liking the flowered print that I have but of course I have to see if the "perfect" print is waiting to be purchased, There goes my resolve not to buy any new fabric until I make a dent in my growing stash! Even if I don't use the flowered print on the front I will definitely use it on the back. How's that for rationalization?

True

I really like flowered print now it is cut, funny how that makes a difference? But another print would also look good so who knows what you will find;-). For me the print makes it flow better... So agree whatever you decide it will be beautiful!

AllPatchedUp

Hey, your rationalization is completely rational!!! :P

True

Winner is the polka dots!! Or at least in my humble opinion...different than others and pulls all the colors in through dots!!!

Terryt1955

LOL, True , I didn't know why I liked the polka dot but in my gut I knew it was the one. Now that I read that it "pulls the other colors in"
it makes sense why it worked on my gut level. Thanks for the opinion, it does count!

AllPatchedUp

LOVE the dots!!!

Slicksister

Perfect choice!!!!!!

Charwirfs

Dots are perfect. Has the look of a solid, but the interest of a print.

Conniharns

Terryt1955 these colors are great. And I love the center dot fabric you decided on. Perfect choice for my non professional eye.....but ya know what you like!!! Will watch your progress on this one. Maybe matching pillows in the future!!! It's been a few wks now with no new pillows from you???!!

Terryt1955

Thanks Allpatchedup , Slicksister and Charwirfs . I am loving the dots too. I hope this weekend is quiet because I am in the mood to make a dent in this one.

Conniharns LOL! I would love to make a pillow but I'm already using every scrap I had left over from my Tied and True . There's still hope though since I never started my Polar Bear pillow project. It's so cute I just have to make it.

True

Looks great!!

Terryt1955

True Thanks! Not bad for using up left over HST's. I don't know yet what I'm going to do with the blocks. Maybe a bed runner?
