Description

When I came across this paper pieced BoM by Kristy over at Quiet Play I knew I had to join in!

I'm using a layer cake of Sew Stitchy by Aneela Hoey and my background fabric is from Bonnie & Camille's Ruby line. It took me awhile to decide on a background fabric after seeing the full 9 block layout last month, but now that is done and I'm caught up.

Loving this BoM!

The block for March is called "Just Spoolin' Around".

April's block - "Snip it Real Good".

May's block - "Keep Calm and Press On"

9/29: I've gotten way behind in this BoM but I'm back on track with September's block "My Sewing Sanctuary".  I've found that if I just work to complete a section at a time on these complex blocks they are much more doable for me. This one was the THE most challenging of the bunch... now I'll work backwards until I've got all 9 done.  3 to go!

11/18: Another block done - "A Stitch in Time".  I've selected this project for my November goal to finish it up so it will be full steam ahead through month end. I was worried yesterday I was going to run out of the grey pins fabric but wasted a worry as it turned out fine!

11/19: Block #8 "Cut it Out" is done! The "ruler" in the bottom left corner will have embroidered lines added to it once I remove the paper.  Next up is "I Like Big Stash" and it is a fun one... I worked on the stash pile sections last night.

11/26: "I Like Big Stash" is done and I'm going to start sashing the blocks together today!

11/27: OK... I said I wasn't going to post any pictures on my blog until this project is done but I need to share them here then!  LOL Oh my this project is pushing me.  I ended up adding cornerstones to help me keep the blocks square as I assembled them which added to the futsiness factor but they are doing what I wanted and helping the blocks to fit better.  I'll never complain about sewing regular blocks together again!  I'm going to add a 1" finished inner border in the pins fabric and then add a piano key border using my leftover layer cake pieces. As much I try to talk myself out of it - I really want a scrappy border.

I had one block that was totally strange (bottom middle) and had to remove paper from the top edge to ease it together. I'll watch that corner when quilting and be sure to keep it square.  I also had 2 blocks on the corners that were my first 2 and were smaller than the rest due to my mistake when printing the patterns from a PDF file.  Instead of remaking them I added background to 2 sides as a reminder of my learning curve.

12/1: It's finished!  I sewed down the binding last night to met my November challenge finish.

Love the scrappy border and I think it was worth the extra time, this is such a fun fabric line and I love seeing all the fabrics I only got to use bits of surrounding the quilt.  Especially the spool prints!

I have some embroidery to add - thread from the spool on the scissors block and the lines on the ruler in the rotary cutter block for starters - and I would also like to hand quilt some areas eventually and add some embellishments (buttons) but I'm going to let it rest for a awhile and just enjoy it.

Stamdl

Aren't these blocks the cutest? March's block is spools of thread, I'm just getting started.

Mymble

Ahhh- this is so cute- my plate is already so full it's wobbly but I may need to try these- they are wonderful!!!!

Mouseinmypocket

I love it! So fun.

Stamdl

Mouseinmypocket Mymble Thanks! This one was challenging to sew but I'm happy with how it turned out (minus the fix needed in the lower corner!).

Stamdl

Carolmarie The patterns are available at Craftsy, they are free during the month they are released. I'm not sure what the $ is after that.

True

I do not know how I missed all of these...love them!

Kruppcake

Caa48

Stamdl yes you must keep posting your blocks! I love them

Stamdl

Caa48 IheartDL Thank you and I will. I fixed my broken link in the description so you can peek at the remaining 4 blocks. The Stash Closet and The Sewing Room are going to be intense!~

Stamdl

Carolmarie Thank you! I wish I had an iron that cute in real life...

Jodyrose

Charwirfs

cally68

This is so adorable! I love it!

Stamdl

janepez cally68 thank you both! And I love that pattern and had fun browsing her shop.

Stamdl

Carolmarie Thank you Carol. I would say these are my 1st first attempt at complex PP outside of the class I took 6-7 years ago. I love the result of PP and am getting more comfortable with the technique... it's very time consuming for me but I'm learning! By the time I finish the last 3 blocks I hope to be more at ease and I do have a few patterns I'd like to try.

Quilt455

This is so cute. I just love pp. Wish I could find time to do more of it; and I might if I get results like this.

Stamdl

Quilt455 Thank you! It does take time and I don't find it as relaxing as other types of projects but the results can't be beat.

VictoriaJ

Wow, these are amazing! Makes me what to try paper piecing. So, so cute.

Stamdl

VictoriaJ Thank you! Kristy does an amazing job designing these blocks doesn't she? I am working on the last one now, should have new pics tomorrow.

Sewhappy

Love the blocks and the fabric, what fun to make, and have in your sewing room when finished! :-)

Stamdl

Sewhappy Thank you! It will be a focal point my room for years to come.

True

Love the closet of stash! Cannot wait to see these all together.

Stamdl

True Me either! I have primo wall space in my quilting just waiting for this!!

Conniharns

This is so darn cute!! Love your fabric choices to. I have not pp before but will at some point I am sure. The precise and crisp lines are beeutiful! That stash closet is adorable!!

Stamdl

Conniharns Thank you! These complex blocks have been a real challenge but I've learned from my mistakes and some will be in the finished project to show my progress. I'll love it all the more!

Mrsquilt

This sooo lovely! The sashing adds a lot ! It is so harmonious and fun :)

Stamdl

Mrsquilt Thank you! Sometimes the most challenged become the most loved. Getting there...

cally68

Everytime I see this, I love it more and more. I am going to have to purchase the patterns and add it to my to do list.

Stamdl

cally68 They really are the cutest blocks aren't they?

Clairealex

That project is so cute! I'd say my favorites are the stash and the sewing machine, but I love the nod to reality with the seam ripper too. BTW I agree with your priorities.:-)

Seeneed

These are so cute and I admire your ability to power through to get them done even though you had fallen behind.

Stamdl

Seeneed thank you very much. I'm hoping to have it finished over the weekend... Don't want it to become a UFO!

Stamdl

Clairealex thank you! The stash block was a lot of fun to make. The sewing room was the most challenging block by far - so many intricate sections. Worth it in the end!

Quilterinmotion

Stamdl , these blocks are all amazing. I love detailed paper piecing and if I had been aware of this BOM I most likely would have participated as I love watching these PP projects take on their own personality. Love your fabric choices and you've been doing a great job. With paper-piecing the saying "Practice Makes Perfect" is SEW true!

True

I just love this quilt...you did such an awesome job!

Stamdl

Quilterinmotion Thank you so much! I loved these blocks from first sight and didn't really know what I was getting myself into. Doing the last 3 this month I feel like I hit my PP groove at last and agree with your last comment wholeheartedly!

Stamdl

True Thank you - I am thrilled and relieved to be done!

Thesewingchick

Deb, this is adorable!! I love it and you did a beautiful job with the paper piecing!!

Stamdl

Thesewingchick Thank you so much!

Joke

Love the finished product. That scrappy border just makes it! Such a great colour combination in this line; it reallymakes the sewing motifs cute!!

HawkFan

Wow it's beautiful! Wonderful job

Posyp

Looks wonderful. I've got the patterns's just need to make the time to make my own.

Stamdl

Posyp HawkFan Joke Thank you all! This is a fun fabric line and I loved being able to use the spool prints in the border since they were hard to work in elsewhere.

Mrsquilt

And now the border! I just love it :). Bravo!

Stamdl

Mrsquilt Thank you! I'm so happy with this one.
