Description

I bought this in a kit around 2002. The fabric line is called True Friends Collection by Benartex and the pattern is from "True Friends" by Nancy Halvorsen (Art To Heart).

The piecing is all done... but I got stalled on the applique.  If you look at the book in the picture you can see the runner in the bottom left, it has a vine of appliqued tulips around the edges.

I have not done much applique, I've got all the pieces fused and I'm excited to play around with the blanket stitches on my Juki F600!

4/30:  Done!  I had no idea how time consuming machine applique is!  I'm actually stiff from being hunched over my machine for hours... next time I will relax more and lower my desk chair.  For quilting I just stitched in the ditch along both sides of the applique sections and around the patchwork diamonds in the center.  I wanted the hours of applique to be the star!

The pretty pastels are so hard to photograph well.  I took the finish photos last night, today is overcast and gloomy so I guess I'll keep these.

This is going to be lovely...I love this fabric as well.

True Thank you - I'm a bit nervous about all of the applique but looking forward to enjoying it on my table.

Stamdl I have found when I do appliqué just take it slow and remember you have a seams ripper as needed! (not to suggest you will need it;-). I always worry "can I do this" and have found if I just focus in one step at a time I can!

Rebeccajeffsmith

Very pretty and perfect for spring!

Stamdl

Rebeccajeffsmith Thank you! This is one of my older UFOs so it will feel good to finish it up.

True Thanks for the advice and boosting my confidence. I shouldn't put things off... because they just grow more ominous!

Stamdl I also remembered on way to work I had this pinned and some of it is no brainer stuff but some was really helpful http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/techniques/applique/machine-applique-tips_ss1.html?sssdmh=dm17.595844&esrc=nwapq050812&email=2677154776

True Thank you SO much! The section on how to pivot around curves is just what I need. I also need to remember that the only one who will examine every stitch is me! Tomorrow AM I'll be buying thread and getting started hopefully in the afternoon, I'll post pics.

Stamdl that is the part I found really helpful and since I read it find I am much better at it than I use to be. I also read somewhere (may be in this reading but may be from some where else) to remember you can also hand manipulate where your needle falls using your hand wheel. I have become quite good at that and it has helped alot of corners, curves, etc. And yes no one but you will look as closely at it... I have ended up loving the things I have appliqued (as I sit in my office and can see two of my favorites on my walls!) and gets lots of positive comments about them... but will say when I finish a project I do need a break from it as it exhausts me a bit!!

This is so pretty. I love the way the colors blend together.

Stamdl

Janquilter Thank you... it's a very soft mix with lots of details.

It is gorgeous and now you know why I said "when I finish a project I do need a break from it as it exhausts me a bit!!" It is time well spent but boy oh boy it takes forever! Your end result is so lovely.

True The link you send helped so much! Doing the 1st vine was painful... but it got better. The soft colors in this runner were 1) wonderful to hide my oopsies but also 2)really hard on the eyes while stitching!

True

Stamdl I am so glad it helped and yes the light colors oh my...

Readerowl

It is beautiful! Congratulations.

Rebeccajeffsmith

Hey! You did a great applique job. Looks like you've been doing it all along. I only wish my machine had that stitch. You did a great job, congrats on another finish!!!

Stamdl

Rebeccajeffsmith Readerowl Thank you both! The pretty stitch on the machine hides a lot of my learning curve.

You were very smart to make the applique be the star of the table runner. What a beautiful job you did! When I first saw the flowers just laying on top I thought they were going to be too busy and distracting. But not the case now that they are appliqued on!

Stamdl

Terryt1955 Thank you! I, on the other hand, didn't think they were going to stand out enough and debated cutting the stems from a darker green. I'm glad I stuck to the ones I had!
