Description

I made the heart pillow from Pretty in Patchwork Holidays. My daughter specifically requested that I add  "ruffle somewhere" so rather than binding the edge, I made a ruffle and stitched the front and back inside out with the ruffle sandwiched between. I wasn't very precise making the ruffle. I just cut four 2 1/2 inch x WOF strips and stitched them together as I would binding fabric. Then I pressed the long strip in half length-wise and did a basting stitch along the raw edges (I increased my machine's tension which made it sort of ruffle naturally). Then I basted it to the front of the pillow before stitching the front and back together.

The inside of the pillow does have raw edges, which I don't love as far as durability. I did zig-zag the inner edge, so hoping that will help some.

All of my daughters loved it, and now that Valentine's Day is over, it has been claimed on a rotating basis for each girl to use in turn.

The main pink fabric is pink Essex Linen and the patchwork was all made of strips I had cut - you can read more about that here.

I'm a fan of ruffles and your pillow looks great!

I am with everyone else, I love the ruffles; they just add so much to the pillow. Iike your fabric selection too.

Caribousmom Quilt455 Stamdl True Thank you everyone! After my daughter suggested it, I thought adding the ruffle would be cute, and I like how it turned out! (Of course, I later learned that she meant she wanted a ruffle around the heart. I explained that that would not have worked so well ;-)
