Description

I've added a link in the tutorial box (below) to the site where I purchased this kit. They have MANY quilt kits for Kaffe's quilts and they are generous with the fabric. To find the kits, go to the left sidebar and select under "Kaffe Fassett Fabric Packs". You can also purchase fabric separately there and they have a great selection of Kaffe and other Rowan designers.

I adore Kaffe Fassett and his gorgeous fabrics. I purchased the Blush kit quite some time ago and then took ages to get it pieced. This is a double bed size quilt and it is bright and amazing. I have the backing fabric, but need to get the back pieced before I can pin this one and get it quilted.

7/19/2012 Update: I thought maybe it was time for an update on this one. The back is all pieced and today I got it all pinned. I'm using a wool batting and I love the bulk of this quilt. I hope to get this one quilted before the end of the month - but we'll see!

8/29/2012 Update: Well, this one has been sitting for awhile all pinned and today I started quilting it. At first I was going to FMQ and I started doing that...hated what I was doing and ended up spending 30 minutes ripping it out. So now I am doing straight line quilting about 1/4" from each seam (horizontal and vertical). I've gotten a few vertical rows done and am happy with my decision. This quilt is huge - it will probably take me awhile to finish the quilting!

9/6/2012: FINISHED!!! Wow, this quilt took a long time to quilt all those straight lines - but I am really happy with how it turned out. I used wool batting so I did not get as many crinkles - but I wanted it to be light and warm so I could use it in the winter for a bright splash of color on those gray, cold winter days!

Janquilter

Amazing colors! That quilt will brighten any room.

Caribousmom

I am so in love with this one - the brighter the better!! Thanks True and Janquilter !

Quilt455

I don't believe that you have once again made a favorite of mine. Love, Love,Love the fabric. I must stop calling you from work when you are quilting, I am taking an artist away from her work.

Caribousmom

Thank you Quilt455 (Cathie) Kaffe's fabrics are some of my favorites. This quilt was a kit I bought so I can't take any credit for this one - I just followed the pattern and used the same fabrics he did! Work is such a bother, isn't it? LOL

Mymble

So beautiful...a treasure. I think I would just want to carry this one around with me ...like Linus from Peanuts;)))))

Caribousmom

Mymble I love the image!!! I think we all need a blanket (or quilt) to carry around and snuggle beneath :)

Quilt455

But you were smart enough to buy the kit!!!!!

Caribousmom

Okay, Quilt455 , I'll take credit for that smirk

Iamcarolmarie

That is so pretty and joyful!!

Caribousmom

Thanks Iamcarolmarie (Carol!!)

Readerowl

Caribousmom

Thank you Readerowl !

Robynie

I am excited to see this one finished, it is a very beautiful quilt.

Caribousmom

Thanks, Robynie - I'm getting excited to get it done...it is one of those quilts which has seemed to take forever!!

True

Looking good and you have made more progress than I have on the one I basted this weekend so I am jealous!

Caribousmom

True - thanks for the encouragement! Don't be jealous, though - this one sat pinned on my cutting table for over a month before I started actually quilting it LOL!

Rebecca

I think the straight lines are going to be lovely on this.

Caribousmom

Thanks, Rebecca - I'm liking those straight lines too...I haven't straight-line quilted a quilt in awhile...
Carolmarie thank you!

True

I do love those straight lines ...good thing since it is what I do;-)... For this quilt I think it really allows the gorgeous fabric to be center stage!

Thesewingchick

LOVE IT!! The fabrics are amazing. I have always wanted to make a quilt with all Kaffe fabrics, but I am overwhelmed at the prospect of choosing the right ones to go together. A kit is definitely the way to go! I think the straight line quilting was a great choice. Hope it gets done soon:)

Quilt455

Wow, this quilt is so "strong",! I can not wait to see it finished. I can believe you had to do some ripping out., I think you will like it much better with straight lines since the colors are so bright and wonderful. Hey, kind of like you.

Quilt455

Oh ya, do you think you could have gotten your seams to match more? NOT

Caribousmom

True - I need to listen to my quilts more when it comes to quilting - you're right about the straight lines letting the fabric be center stage.
Thesewingchick I am so in agreement with you - I had wanted to make a Kaffe quilt like this for so long and I was totally intimidated by how to use the fabrics effectively which is why I went with the kit. I'm going to update this project and provide the link to the site where I bought it - they have many, many kits with the exact fabrics used for his quilts from his books.

Caribousmom

Quilt455 aw, you are so nice blush Re: seam matching: press, press, press :)

Quilt455

Yup, my seams have never looked better after our "sewing day". I use to think it was a waste of time, I have totally change my mind. Makes a world of difference. I am glad you are getting to quilt and I hope you are relaxing alittle too.

Terryt1955

Wowza! Beautiful! And so cool that there are kits available since Kaffe can be a little intimidating. Are you sure this isn't a whole cloth quilt- the seams are way too perfect! You know you're suppose to make a mistake every once in awhile so people know it's hand made!

Caribousmom

Quilt455 I'm glad the pressing has helped...I love nothing better than when the blocks fit perfectly (oh yes, I have that little bit of OCD in me!!!).
Terryt1955 LOL- trust me, there are plenty of mistakes in my quilts! But thanks for the nice comment :)

Loraclare

Oh wow! I love those colors!

Caribousmom

Thanks so much Loraclare !

Janquilter

Congrats on finishing. It is beautiful!

True

This is like having a sunrise on your bed...truly amazingly gorgeous and I love quilting but your patience!! WOW! Just loved it...

Caribousmom

Thank you SO much Janquilter and True . Feels good to get this one done :)

Sewzalot

That is beautiful. I love the colors and the pattern, the pieced back and label are wonderful! I have never used wool batting before. I would love to know what the pluses and minuses are in using wool batting. I really enjoyed your blog also. Full of beautiful photos and sweet pets!

JudyBR

Congratulations on your finish. I love the color movement throughout the quilt--how the darker pinks and reds move to orange and the smaller yellow flowers define the lighter pinks. Beautiful.

Caribousmom

Sewzalot - thank you! I have used wool batting a few times. The pros are that it is very light weight (so good for large quilts) and warm. It gives a bit more "loft" to the quilt. The con (for me anyway) is that it does not crinkle the way a cotton batting does ... I like crinkles, but I find that some of these big quilts are just too heavy with the cotton batting. Because wool is lighter weight, it also makes it easier to move around when you're quilting it.

Caribousmom

Jbr thank you so much. I fell in love with this quilt in Kaffe Fassett's book because of those lights and darks - and I had not really made a value quilt before so this was really fun to see the pattern come out as I pieced.

Sewzalot

Caribousmom , Thank you very much for the info. Is there any concerns with care and washing a wool batting quilt?

Caribousmom

Sewzalot I washed and dried this exactly as I would do with cotton batting and it came out perfectly. I should also mention that the drape with wool batting is really soft so it works well with fabrics that are soft and drapey (like Kaffe fabrics).

Caribousmom

...I guess I should mention that I wash with COLD water (and use a color catcher or two) and dry in a medium to hot dryer until it is completely dry.

Laweigel

So beautiful! You are an amazing quilter! I love all your work.

Caribousmom

aw, thank you so much Laweigel blush

Conniharns

I......I.....I....am speechless! This is SO beautiful Wendy. You are amazing......and I am anxious to always soak up any help, tips and guidance that you offer.

Caribousmom

Oh Conniharns you are so sweet! I love quilting with you...we need to get together and have a sew day again soon :)

Quilt455

Wendy, this is more than beautiful. You are turning me into a "modern" quilter by all your wonderful quilts. I love the fabric and love how you quilted it. It is beyond words. Can't wait to see it in person.

Caribousmom

Thanks Quilt455 - you and Conni are far too complimentary! I'll be in work tomorrow - I'll bring it :)

Quilt455

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait. Did I mention I can't wait!

Caribousmom
Quilt455

Wendy, this is beautiful in the pictures but in person it is beyond beautiful The colors are so bright and cheerful. I love the pattern and how you quilted it. Just totally outstanding. Using wool for the batting makes it so light and "drapy". Love it

Caribousmom

aw, thank you so much Quilt455 - you and Conniharns are so supportive of my quilting and I appreciate it more than you know! I hope I am just as encouraging to both of you!

Conniharns

You are ALWAYS encouraging Wendy! We are so lucky to have your knowledge, expertise and most important your friendship to guide us through!!

Caribousmom

heart u, Conniharns !!
