Description

3/18 - Yesterday I felt like sewing blocks together so I pulled out some UFO blocks and got started laying them out.  These string blocks are from a HGTV Quilting Forum swap - I had asked for centers in shades of blue with bright gender neutral strings.

I like to use polar fleece for one step batting & backing since these blocks are pieced on muslin foundations so I'll see what I can find next time I'm near a Joann's.

4/5: This is my UFO Finish for the week and will be donated to Project Linus.

I choose turquoise polar fleece for one step batting and backing. It seemed a little stretchier than the fleece I've used in the past, but I think the bit of wave I have around the edges will disappear after I wash it. I used a pretty variegated Star thread in shades of blue, turquoise and a bit of purple and a scrappy binding of 5 royal blue prints from my 2.5" string drawer.

Sewzalot

I love this one!

Stamdl

Sewzalot Me too - love the happy bright colors!

Damnskippy

Love the brightness on this gloomy, gray day. I've never thought of using fleece like that. How does it shrink or not shrink and affect the quilting?

Stamdl

Damnskippy Polar fleece is synthetic so it doesn't shrink. I recommend spray basting as it is stretchier than cotton/flannel. I use it on all of my kid's string quilts, batting makes them a little too bulky for my liking, the fleece adds just enough cuddle!

Looks like a warm sunny summer day! Love it Interesting also using polar fleece..like that idea!! Should be able to find some on sale soon!

Sbbquilter

This is such a happy quilt - I really like the string quilt as a way to use up fabric and enjoy using lots of different fabrics. Someone is going to really enjoy wrapping up in this.

Sbbquilter Thank you! One day I am going to sew until my string bin is empty... It seems to refill itself...
