Description

I am making this quilt for my first niece who will be born in July.
My brother (her father) is a geographer and so I loved the world map, and my daughter loves mermaids and the ocean, so I thought the whole quilt would have a nice family tie (not to mention, they are all from the same fabric collection - Michael Miller, Out to Sea).
I am using one of Anna Marie Horner's fabrics from the latest field study collection as the backing (compasses!) and another Out to Sea fabric for the binding. Should be busy, but hopefully fun and pretty when done!
I will update with new photos as I progress.
Can't wait to meet this little niece and wrap her up in this quilt ;-)

Have finally pieced top together - next up is layering and quilting...trying to get this done before a baby shower at the end of June, plus I have several other baby and wedding quilt projects in the queue! whew!

So happy with how it came out - not super crazy about the binding, but love it otherwise.
First time to experiment with some different quilting techniques, and I'm glad I did.

Looks fantastic. I love how all the fabrics tie into your story and theme. Nicely done.
