Description

I've been inspired by the 12 Dresses Project over at Hot Toddies of Washington to make myself something themed each month through the end of the year.  For April, I've decided to go with the theme "April Showers" and make myself a raincoat.

For this project, I will be using the Amy Butler Raincoat Pattern.  Fabrics for this project are Michael Miller Dumb Dot Laminate in Sea with a poplin lining in Backyard Party in Grey.

**Update 04/15/2013**
I finally got around to cutting my pieces out.  Now I need to do some sewing.

**Update 04/16/2013**
I got quite a bit done last night.  I got the back panels for the interior and exterior completed, as well as the darts added to the front panels, and pockets installed on the exterior of the coat.  It's looking good so far.  I hope to get some photos of my progress soon.

**Update 04/17/2013**
I finished the hood and got it installed tonight, as well as getting most of the exterior assembled.  The next step is to assemble and install the sleeves, which will be a brand new experiment for me.  I probably should have chosen an easier fabric to work with for that.

**Update 04/23/2013**
The raincoat is finished! (Except for buttons, which I've decided to forgo for the time being.)  I love how it turned out.  I've got some photos, but I'll try to get out and get some photos of the coat on when it's not actually raining.

**Update 04/24/2013**
The sun was nice enough to come out just long enough for me to take some decent photos.  I'd love to know what you think.

This is an awesome coat! I am so impressed you are going to make this...

Mouseinmypocket

True thanks - but don't be impressed until it's done. :)

Can't wait to see this!

Sariecherries

This is going to be great! You're gonna look so good it in!

Capetowngirl

This is stunning. Am so keen to do clothes sewing for myself.

Mymble

Wonderful job- now you just need a few April showers!

Mouseinmypocket

Thanks Capetowngirl - you can definately do clothing for yourself. It is really a lot easier than I ever thought it would be, curves and all.

Thanks Carolmarie ! I'm happy to say that it's done now. And I managed to finish it during April, which is good since it was my official April project.

Mouseinmypocket

Mymble Thanks, it had actually rained earlier in the day before I took these photos, so I got to test it before taking the photos. It kept me warm and dry all day.

Oh I just love your label. So cute. And the end result is stunning. Unfortunately we have very few haberdashery shops near where I live, and those we do have don't have a very good selection of fabric.

Mouseinmypocket

Capetowngirl I'm lucky that there's a fantastic fabric store about 1/2 an hour from me with an amazing selection of both clothing and quilting fabrics. They're working on setting up online shopping. I'll be sure to let you know when they do. In the mean time, you might try moodfabrics.com or fabric.com for a nice online selection.

Carolmarie Thanks so much! I'm waiting for someone to ask me where I got it.
