Mug Rugs, April Showers by Quilterinmotion
I am participating in the April Showers Mug Rug Blog Hop sponsored by Madam Samm over at www.sewwequilt.com. She has great ideas and this one appealed to me.
I decided to do a few things I hadn't tried before.
My first mug rug is a "quilt as you go" and was super simple. I can't recall where on Pinterest I saw this as a placemat and decided to give it a try. If it's your design, let me know and I'll add credit to you. It has a modern look with the simplicity of white and colors.
I did do a tutorial on this "Mod Mug Rug" on my blog today (Saturday, 4/13/13) as some readers had asked.
I also tried a "fast binding technique" that Pat Sloan showed on her blog. The link to that is shown on my Friday Finds for 4/12/13.
The second mug rug featured a coffee and mug theme, with a pocket for a special treat - or even your scissors!
The third mug rug was a combination between paper piecing (the umbrellas), raw edge applique (the viney flowers), hexagons (flowers) and echo quilting. The umbrella pattern came from Jill Majers at Apple Avenue Quilts blog.
It was fun to try these different techniques in small projects; a great way to determine if you like doing something.
