Description

A friend who does fantastic wool applique quilts wanted some company stitching with wool so I decided to give it a try.  I love hand stitching and this was fun to do while my hubby watches TV.
I started it in February even though it's a Halloween project.  I knew I'd work on it only now and then and wanted it done before the season came around, thus a February start.

I learned how to felt wool, de-construct a wool garment to recycle the wool for applique and I practiced my embroidery stitches.

"Gourdy's Gang" is a Threads That Binds pattern.   I changed it a bit by drawing a black cat's silhouette to replace one of the gourds on the moon.

Pattern pieces are traced onto fusible interfacing (I used Pellon) then cut out and fused to back of wool pieces.  It is then ironed onto the black flannel, then buttonhole stitch is done around the objects to keep them on the flannel.

Wool tabs were stitched on top (for hanging) and bottom for decoration.

I think I have this pattern-need to get it out and make it! I love how you slipped in that sneaky cat!! You did a great job stitching this and it is adorable to look at. My birthday is Halloween Eve and I'm particularly drawn to cute Halloween decorations. Super Scary Cute!

What a wonderful project! And wow you sure learned a lot along the way. It will be such a fun Halloween decoration!

Sewzalot , True , thanks. It's a great little pattern. I've done a fair amount of embroidery before but the rest of the wool process was all new to me. I'm hooked, though. I started a "Wool Gatherers" group here on Threadbias so hopefully there will be some more wool gatherers sharing their projects/idea/questions.
