Gus's Dragon Quilt by corginole
This is the second project from Quilter's Academy Vol 1: Freshman Year.
One of the lessons was fussy cutting - so the dragons are not cut on grain and I had to be somewhat careful not to stretch them while piecing the blocks.
Gus helped me pick out the fabrics and he also helped with the final dragon layout.
There will be several boarders added (oh yippeee...). First a narrow blue to pick up the blue dragons. A wider black, then a pieced scrappy, and another black. Will either be bound scrappy or with black. We will decide that later on. Gus picked out a backing that I'm not wild about, but it is his quilt, so I'm sure it will be lovely. Gus has also asked for it to be puffy - so it will have a medium to high loft batting.
I'm still not sure how I want to quilt it. I'm not skilled enough yet to outline the dragons effectively - and I also don't want to cut off their snouts with quilting. I took the quilt top with me to a Melody Crust workshop last year, and she suggested straight lines on the diagonals.
This quilt is one of my UFO promises for the 2nd quarter, so it is high on my priority list to complete.
