Description

Here are all the March blocks from the busy bees in Hive #4. Thanks to all of you for your contributions and creativity. It's just the scrappy, colorful look I was hoping for. I plan on backing it with some of my vintage sheets stash.

You have some pretty blocks there!

Terryt1955

Do you think the Hive 4 will forget by July if I were to use this same block? I just love it!! PLease post a picture of the back when you get it done. I want to see your vintage sheets.

Terrysim

Thanks to all the Hive 4 members, Rebeccajeffsmith !

Haha, +Terry1955! I don't know if anyone will forget, but i certainly wouldn't mind doing this block again! Maybe between now and then we could share tips on constructing the block since we all have experience with it now.

Terrysim

That should have been Terryt1955 !

Sewbusy64

I LOVE it!! So glad to see it come together...... although there are so many different looks to each block it still all beautifully fits and works together!! I sure would not mind doing the block again, Terryt1955.

Sewbusy64

AND....I really like how your sashing comes together between blocks.

Terrysim

Oh, it's funny you noticed the sashing, Sewbusy64 ! I did that in order to accommodate the slightly different sizes of the blocks sent to me, and I wasn't really sure if there was a better way to do it. So I made bigger blocks with the white sashing and then trimmed them to a uniform size, hoping the "wonkiness" of the white will not be noticeable once it's quilted.

Sewbusy64

It appears woven. I really like it. Do you have plans on how to quilt it?

Terrysim

Sewbusy64 : Yeah, I like that "woven" effect, too. No quilting plans yet. Any suggestions?

Silsbee

That's amazing. Beautiful!

Slicksister

This turned out great. Can't wait to see it all finished.

Missriain

It looks so good!! And the woven quality of the sashing that Sewbusy points out is one of my favorite aspects. I'm curious - how big did it end up being?

Terrysim

Missriain , it is 41" x 52". On the small side, but that's OK. I'll call it a "lap quilt." smile

Terrysim

I was considering adding more blocks to make it a 4 x 5 layout, but I really wanted to keep it the work of HIve #4.

AllPatchedUp

It looks gorgeous Terry and I think you did a great job getting it to fit together nicely. I too love the way the corners meet. I know it wasn't an intential effect for you, but I often like to do that on purpose just because I like the effect so much!! Something to add to your quilting arsenal. ;)

Terrysim

AllPatchedUp : I'm glad you like it! I decided to rotate the blocks like that once I noticed the pattern the sashing seams would make. I know that YOU know that it was a fortuitous result of some challenges in squaring up the blocks. But isn't that what we love about quilting, the combination of precision and improvisation?! Thanks for your support. wink

AllPatchedUp

Most definitely!! :)

Capetowngirl

Finally we see them all together and they are lovely. Love the way you have sashed the blocks to get them uniform. Can't wait to see the end result.

Drnic2c

It is a beautiful top. Great idea about using the sashing as an equalizer. The varied blocks made a wonderful completed quilt top!

Terrysim

Thank you, Capetowngirl and Drnic2c . I'll admit I was a little nervous about putting the blocks together in a way that would do justice to all the care everyone took in making them. It's one thing to mess up your own work, but quite another to do that to someone else's!
