Hawaiian quilt by Wannaquilt
We visited Hawaii on a dream holiday in 2010, leading me to want to make a Hawaiian quilt. I bought some batik yardage while I was there but couldn't find a pattern I liked. Another tour member recommended a course on Quilt University, but I procrastinated about that for a few years until I heard that Quilt U was closing down. So I signed up for the Nancy Chong course 'Design your own Hawaiian Quilt'.
My design inspiration is the Plumeria flower, and I got some ideas for my medallion design by looking at many other Hawaiian quilts online.
Update June 2013: I used two of the big tables at my guild to lay out the applique medallion onto the background and pin it all down. I started to baste it but only got one quarter done plus the main stems hurriedly tacked down. All of that took five hours. Goodness knows how long it is going to take to applique all of this. I am continuing the basting at home on a smaller table.
