Description

This is my first attempt at a Pictorial Quilt.  I first took an online class through Craftsy and got the basics, then pulled out my picture album and picked a picture.  This is a picture of Mt. Humphreys in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mts.  near Bishop, CA.  My best friend grew up with these mountains in her back yard.  I am now to the point of using the monoploy thread to stitch around the edge of every piece of material.  After that, I can do some quilting and then binding.

Once I finished the quilting, I was just under the deadline to submit at one of the local Quilt Shows, The Millennium Quilt Show in Bridgeport, WV.  I submitted not thinking I would really win anything since this was my first Quilt Show entry and my first Art Quilt I have made.  And to my surprise........I won!!  1st Place in the Art Quilt Category and Best Machine Quilting.  Thanks to Craftsy for the Pictorial Quilt Class!!

I'm new to many of the approaches to quilting (I'm a patchwork person mostly) and I've never seen anything like this before - it looks stunning. What I'm most struck by is the lovely soft lines to the edges of all your pieces, it looks so organic.

Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

crimsonrabbit I turned the edges of the fabric under and glued with a glue stick on the top half of the scene. Where there are lots of small curves and indents it was really hard to turn under, so I did a raw edge applique.

I am very excited about this project and all the positive responses I've received.
