Purple is my favorite color too, and I adore batiks. This is beautiful!
This is a newbie question, but how much planning is involved? Did you use a pattern (X many of this color, Y of that), or did you just make a bunch and they all happened to fit together? Does that make sense?
Juline I am a planner! I spend an average of 3 days choosing fabric from my stash. I audition several fabrics and then switch, keep, swap, whatever. I spent time laying them all out so the various shades of purple were evenly distributed - organized scrappy!! I had tons of purple batiks that didn't make the cut. I have a lot of experience with color (my career was in the printing industry so I guess I know a lot about color) so I'm very picky!! I enjoy the selecting and organizing as much as I love the piecing!!
So did you cut fabric and piece one block at a time?
Wow this is gorgeous and quite the selection and creation process!
Juline I cut all the fabric before piecing but if I ended up not liking a particular fabric, I'd not use it and cut something else.......
What a wonderful way to showcase all your purples.
I'm in awe! Simply beautiful.
twistedandloose Thank you - it was NOT a difficult quilt to make - fun to see it come together!!
Lovely! I love all log cabin blocks! You did a great job in placing the various fabrics!
What a lovely quilt. I really like the depth of color and movement in a planned multi-fabric quilt. Batiks are my favorite fabrics to piece with and you seem to a wonderful collection.
Sbbquilter Yes, I have a ton of batik - I'm guessing about 5000 yards. I shipped my batik back to the US when I moved from Bali and of course I still buy when I see something I love.
Thanks for the kind words!!
