Description

Just joined Hive 2 in June 2013 so I'll start posting pictures of the blocks I make. I am helping out by making an April block too.

June block tutorial:  http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/CourthouseSteps/
finished 6/11/13, mailed 6/12/13

April block tutorial: http://filminthefridge.com/2009/06/24/quartered-squares-a-modified-bento-box-block-tutorial/

July blocks: finished July 7. On the first block I used a white fabric with gray circles. Once I was done, I worried the center wasn't reading white enough so I used that as an excuse to make a second block. I put a bike print on both since I saw Tracy had bikes in all her blocks. I hand embroidered my name and city/state. My machine will do it but I haven't taken the time to figure out how to do that so it was easier to do it by hand. My embroidery skills are VERY rusty though.

August: Nine patch in a Churn: http://ladyreed.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/nine-patch-in-a-churn-dash-block.pdf  Finished 8/15/13. My first ever churn block. This was another fun one to pick fabrics for and put together.

Sept: My month as Queen. Those blocks are posted on another project page

Oct: Woven block in Holiday colors. Finished Sept 29. Fun and quick block to put together

Nov: Converging corners in fall colors. Finished Nov 3

Dec: any block we wanted to make. It's not wonky, I just did a terrible job of taking the picture. The border is a dark blue although it looks almost black in my picture - winter, evening pictures never do justice to the fabrics.

Aug 17, 2015 - no changes made, I'm just updating this to mark it as "complete"

Oh and thank you for stepping in and being so speedy;-)

Quilbee

Welcome to hive 2, your blocks look lovely!

HawkFan

Quilbee Thanks. I love your color choices in the hive blocks you've made, especially the Granny Square. You have a great eye.

Terryt1955

Lovin the July blocks. And no, I don't think the center gray read too much gray. But any excuse to make a 2nd one works for me and I'm sure Tracy won't mind either. I want to play in your stash box!

True

Great block for July...I just cut out all my 2.5" squares last night with my new Baby Go...ok it took less than 5 minutes! Hoping to get it done and mailed this weekend.

sareew

I love the July blocks! Great job!

Tracy

Can not wait for these to get here! I too would like to play in your fabric. I don't mind the gray center at all. Both will be added to the group. :)

Mymble

July block is absolutely adorable!

HawkFan

Terryt1955 Tracy I only used either scraps or cut from jelly roll strips or charm squares. I wanted to do the two blocks without duplicating any fabrics (and staying away from batik scraps). That was tough. Towards the end I was really digging through what I had but I've made something from pretty much everything in the blocks.

HawkFan

True I have to get one of those Baby Gos!

HawkFan

Thanks sareew & Mymble . I agree with Tracy, these are so fun to do.

PurpleIris

That bicycle wheel in your July block just makes me smile!

HawkFan

PurpleIris - I like fussy cutting when I've got fun fabric. This is a great block for that.

True

Love your latest block

HawkFan

Thanks True Ladyreed asked for bright colors so I tried to oblige.

Quilt455

HawkFan I love your august block. the center fabric is wonderful and that blue is great.

HawkFan

Thanks Quilt455 I have a nice stash of solids and that's one of my favorites.

True

Love your blocks such gorgeous fabrics!

HawkFan

Thanks True - part of the store closeout haul. This block was a great excuse to buy these fabrics (like I need an excuse hahaha)

Kathie

Wow! I love these fabrics and can't wait to see this block in person smile !

True

Love your November block...great colors and fabrics!

HawkFan

Thanks True - I love the vintage feel of your block. She'll have a beautiful quilt

True

great pinwheel!

HawkFan

True - thanks Mary but I think you must be squinting really hard to see any attractiveness. It's really a terrible picture but I want to get it mailed out ASAP so I didn't bother to take another picture. It's signed, sealed and waiting to be delivered mailbox_with_mail tada

True

I really like the colors of the pin wheel...a lot...and used my imagination for border!
