Mermaid Wishes bag by Menolly13
This is a (belated) 5th birthday gift for my niece, Anna. She'll be starting school this fall, so I thought she might like a "big girl" bag to put her goodies in. She loves mermaids so I had to get the Michael Miller mermaid fabric to make something for her and it became the basis for the rest of the bag. The remainder of the fabrics are all 2.5" strips from the Scrappy Trip Along swap
I host over on flickr. I fancy-cut the mermaids for each side and then just started randomly sewing and trimming strips until I got a piece that looked big enough (around 10 x 12). I used a combination of the noodlehead wide-open mouth pouch tutorial and a tutorial I found on covered zipper ends for the assembly, and added loops & D rings to attach a strap. The strap is two pieces that tie together so she can adjust the length as she gets taller. Here's hoping she likes it!
6/13/13: Update: It's official, she LOVED it. I got a thank you phone call this evening and she was so excited she was squealing! My sister says she's been carrying it around all day. Now to figure out what to make for her soon-to-be-3 little sister!
