Description

I had a layer cake of Noteworthy fabric by Sweetwater and wanted to do something with it. This is what I came up with. All but one of the pinwheels is included in this quilt top. The border is some fabric I had from Connecting Threads. I started out doing it just to use up some fabric from my stash but I really started liking it the farther I got. I'd never done wonky blocks before (except for a couple in my block of the month class) so I thought I'd give it a try here.

I'm now working on piecing a back using scraps from the front plus a couple of bigger yellow and pink pieces of fabric I have.

I also thought I should post this here so my hive-mates won't worry that all I work with are (obnoxiously) bright batiks . I do know how to tone it down . Sorry the pictures aren't great. The top isn't lopsided despite looking like it is from the photo.

Feb 4, 2015 - I didn't realize this UFO was from two years ago! Nice to have this finished. It really started out as a lark - kind of a "practice" quilt so I decided to practice FMQ on it. The FMQ is pretty rough so no close-ups of it  I pieced the back from stash fabric and leftovers from the front and think I actually like the back better. Cross off another UFO!

Tracy

I really like the Noteworthy fabrics and what you have made with them. I have some fabric from the line that I have been contemplating what to do with. Pinwheels perhaps? laughing

Skynme

This is so cute and mellow. I love it

HawkFan

Thanks Tracy and Skynme

I wasn't sure I'd like the quilt when I started it but I think since I wasn't completely in love with the fabric when I started, I was OK cutting it up. I'm having a hard time doing that with some of my other fabric and I just need to jump in. Now I love the colors and, like Skynme says, the mellowness of it.

Mymble

Such a fun and happy go lucky quilt- great!

Rebecca

Perfect use of the noteworthy fabric! I love how soft and sweet this quilt is.

HawkFan

Thanks everyone. I love the description "happy go lucky"

Quilt455

I just love pinwheels and this one is just too cute. I never thought to do them "wonky, great idea that I might have to steal.

HawkFan

Quilt455 Thanks Quilt455 . I liked wonky since I didn't have to be as precise. It was a nice break from matching all the corners in some of my other projects.

Quilt455

I agree; I just finished a quilt for my brother with pinwheels and bow ties and I have to admit, not all the seams are perfect but I am okay with that.

HawkFan

Quilt455 Usually we're the only ones who notice :wink . Everyone else is "looking" at the love we put in to it.:

Quilt455

HawkFan What a great way of putting it. I have to remember these wise words

Wildolive

I love when classic patterns get a new twist on them. And the colors here are so great!

HawkFan

Thanks Wildolive - I also love when I can take a mistake and go a different direction. (confession here) It looked like the pinwheels weren't going to line up well (they were the first I had made) so I thought "wonky" - the flaws won't show. I've got a lot of experience changing directions LOL

True

I have no clue how I missed this one...love it and I just love this collection. Great quilt...makes me want to cuddle up with it and read a good book!

HawkFan

True Thanks Mary. It's in my "to be quilted" pile. I'm really not sure how I'm going to quilt it - I'm thinking either diagonal lines or maybe wavy lines to represent "wind". I always get stuck on that part of a quilt!

Caribousmom

This is such a sweet, fun quilt, Audrey! I love the wonkiness of the blocks as it makes them look like they are moving!

HawkFan

Caribousmom Carolmarie - Thanks Wendy and Carol. Confession - I had just done some fairly detailed piecing and the thought of being precise with these just made me grumpy. I did the wonky look just so I could be less precise. I liked the look of it so I'm glad I did it that way

True

HawkFan love idea of the wind!

sew_what

The colors in this quilt are instantly calming.

HawkFan

True I really do need to practice FMQ so I have more options but I haven't gotten around to it. I think a nice swirly design would be good and would look "wind"-y but that would be a lot easier using FMQ.

HawkFan

sew_what That's a good description. I really do need to finish this one!

True

HawkFan I have same issue about FMQ, I also need to get more comfortable (once I learn how to do it on larger quilts) with how it looks. I love seeing it on other's quilts but struggle with it on my own. All about my "sense of order"! and getting out of my comfort zone.

HawkFan

Carolmarie True - I don't have the technique down to where I don't have goofy stitch lengths and quick changes instead of smooth curves. I'm going to have to learn some time though because I don't think all my quilts will work just using straight lines smile

True

Already told you I love this on IG but never can love a quilt too much!!!

Mymble

Love your finish - quilting and allο˜‰ο˜ο˜ο˜

Readerowl

This is a fun finish! Congratulations.

HawkFan

Readerowl Mymble True Thanks ladies. I am glad to have it finished since I think it's my oldest UFO

Caribousmom

cute cute cute! and the quilting is great!

HawkFan

Caribousmom Thanks Wendy.

Quilt455

Pinwheels are one of my very favorite block and you did such a great job on this one. Love your colors and how you placed the blocks. Great quilting too.

HawkFan

Quilt455 Thanks Cathie. It was fun to put this one together.

Terryt1955

This quilt was just waiting for the arrival of Scout to be your model. Congrats on your finish and turning a "mistake" into a treasure.
I am loving the back A LOT!

Sewhappy

I love pinwheels and Noteworthy and you've done a fabulous job combining them. Really cute quilt!

HawkFan

Terryt1955 Thanks Terry. What is it about dogs/cats and putting a quilt on the floor? I'm thinking I should make another quilt but use my back "pattern" as the front.

HawkFan

Thanks Sewhappy by the end of this project I was really liking Noteworthy

Terryt1955

HawkFan I think that is an excellent idea. That back is just too pretty to be faced down!
