Description

I know it's only June 22nd but decided to try out the square within a square portion of Leo's block just to see how it goes.
Like Leo says, it's not hard, just take one section at a time. However if you're trying to get this block done before delivering a baby (i.e. +Creamcity) I would suggest not waiting to the last minute. Admittedly I am slow and take my time but by the time you cut out eighteen 2.5" squares and make the two square within a square sections you're looking at some time. I also have to confess that I don't have a scraps bucket, bin, jar so I don't have any 2.5" squares hanging around. NOW I see why it would be a good idea to start saving and sorting.
I also didn't identify the centers of the square and the triangles thinking I had a pretty good eye but it became obvious I didn't when I had to sacrifice the points on 2 sides of the square due to not having enough fabric to work with. Don't trust your eyes!!! Follow Leo's directions!
But aside from all my whining I plan to plug along because I think the block is going to be very fun once all is said and done.

Feeling cocky so I went on to the next square w/in a square (yellow blue green combo) only to realize once I took the picture that one of the points got eaten up. So I went to the tutorial that True referenced and lo and behold it came out like a charm. Note to self: Don't fight the paper piecing, it really works!
I also didn't like the yellow combination with the aqua/red so that was another reason to try  it again.

True

Great block! If anyone is interested you can also paper piece this block.

Terryt1955

True , Have you had any experience drafting a paper pieced block? I know that would definitely solve the problem of losing the points but have never played around with drafting a p.p. block.

True

I have but no need;-). Here is one done for same size block http://www.craftbuds.com/square-in-square-quilt-block-paper-piecing-tutorial/

Terryt1955 Love this block and boy are you ahead of the game. Pretty colors.

True

This is great block to learn paper piecing on.

Terryt1955

True That is a great little p.p.tutorial!

Quilt455 Thanks but just because i have 1 section done doesn't mean I'll get it finished faster than anyone else! I hope Leo likes the colors too. I'm using my stash and that just happens to be the colors I've been working with lately. I might hold off assembling the 2 square within a squares until I see what other people are doing in case my colors are way off.

I have my parts all cut but nothing sewn. might make a couple changes .... & about seeing what others are doing, remember that Leo said on her example project page:
'ohh and please if you can manage - no spoiler picturs where I can see them' so we have to be careful!

Terryt1955

Readerowl haha, I just remembered that so I won't be posting anything more. However does it count if we just keep it on our own project page? She would really have to try hard to peak if we kept it there right?

Readerowl

Terryt1955 . You are right, that might work. Now, I couldn't help looking if I saw people commenting on such projects, but she might :)

Strandkorbtraum

Terryt1955 Readerowl she saw - and will be more careful about clicking on "recent activity" and make sure it's "poste" not "commentd on" ... so no worries if you want an exchange of ideas etc I will stay away - oh and no comment on the picture I'm pretending I didn't see it ...

Creamcity

It turned out really nice!

Terryt1955

Creamcity Thanks! How are you coming along with yours? Your due date is fast approaching!

Creamcity

I finished mine...I just need to drop it off at the post office!

Terryt1955

Creamcity Good for you because you're going to have your hands full in a couple of weeks. Do you have any family nearby to help you out at first?

Creamcity

My husband will be home to help me out. My parents live 45 minutes away, but they're both retired so it'll be nice to go over there and have them help out with the kids. I think it'll be okay...but yeah, we'll be busy!

Terryt1955

Glad to hear your parents are nearby. Hope your delivery is fast and uneventful!
