Description

I went to a sewing retreat back in March and at the time we were asked to bring in a yard of ugly fabric.  Thee organizers then cut those yards into fat quarters and gave each of us 4 different ugly fabrics.  We were then supposed to make something with the 4 fabrics  and bring it back to the next retreat in Sept.  I liked two of the fabrics and hated the skunk and wallpaper looking striped fabric but there was this pink flamingo diva pattern I had and wanted to make so I thought I could make these fabrics work.  I cut up the silver and cream in the striped fabric to use on the necklace.  I was going to use the skunk fabric for the inch wide strip in the quilt but you could still tell they were skunks so I decided to use it on the binding.    It was so much fun and I decided to use some of my hand dyed fabric for the flamingo.  I then blinged the whole thing up with crystals and flowers.  It makes me smile every time.  I also got a chance to practice some new free motion quilting.  I think I have finally mastered the pebble quilting.  I just love that.

This is great-so fun and the story is too too funny-how smart to use the skunks as binding! It just goes to prove- don't throw anything away you or someone else may be able to make it work!

Wow! This lady has it all going for her, right down to her skunk friends. I love that you took four pieces of ugly fabric and blinged them up with flamingos, flowers, and pearls (?)... I can't quite see the binding in your pics but perhaps it looks like ermine trim. Kudos to you for completing such a difficult challenge with style.

A fun challenge and a great result. Proving once again that there is no such thing as ugly fabric when properly handled. :-)

I love your story. You're so creative! My quilt would have been as ugly as the fabric. I have no imagination.

Seeneed

HawkFan I'm not that creative. The flamingo was a cute pattern that I'd been wanting to do for a while and this ugly fabric challenge fit the bill.

Charwirfs thanks for the kind works, if you click on the picture you should be able see the binding.
