Description

My parents were goint to vacate this year but Yosemite was booked and the Santa Barbara Inn where they spent their homeymoon was closed for renovations the whole month of May!  So....I wasn't able to give them money like I had planned and had to come up with something QUICK.  I started this quilt (started the layout and gathering different fabrics, dragging down old photos from the attic and scanning them), etc on April 27th and had it in a box ready to mait on May 10th so it would reach them by their anniversary on May 18th!

Needless to say after I gathered the fabrics I needed form 5 different places, I stayed indoors and sewed 5am-10 pm every day.  I stayed in the house and my husband made many trips to the store for more thread, more fabric, more lace.  He ripped out seams and tied thread ends while I worked on other squares

By the time I sewed the rows to each other I had wished I made the quilt much smaller but i had too many pictures I wanted to incorporate.  My back hurt so much I wanted to go to a massage person but didn't have the time.

I was very pleased with the results because I have made many blankets but never a quilt.  Now I am learning more about quilting.

I had mu moms sister cross stitch the center square for me.
I wanted the last square back to be special. They didnt notice it until I told them
I embellished about 1/3 of the squares with different laces/ribbons

How very special. Such a special treasure for them

Capetowngirl Thank you so much. I "winged" it and they love it! My sister passed from Ovarian Cancer in Sept 2010 just 7 weeks after diagnosis (still seems like yesterday) so it was quite a journey making this and reminiscing. I cried and sewed every day. My dad told my sister's husband that if there was a fire...just grab the quilt!!!!! :-)

HawkFan Thanks so much...My dad couldn't even talk to me on the phone that day because he was too emotional about the quilt.
