Grandma's quilt by Verity
When my Grandma died, on clearing out her house my father found a bag with some paper-pieced patchwork in, still with papers! and some other pieces cut out ready to be pieced. He gave them to me along with 2 large suitcases full of fabric that had been her stash (or "ragbag" as she called it). Many many years later, I finally had sewn all the pieces together, not enough for a quilt by themselves so I appliqued them onto a lapsize piece of plain fabric, used some pretty floral fabric for the backing (both from her stash) and made a quilt :)
All the sewing was done by hand, except for bagging out the layers. It took a long time but it was a labour of love and I am thrilled with the result. A wonderful reminder of a wonderful woman.
When I showed it to my aunt, she recognised several of the patchwork fabrics as having been her dresses in the 1960s.... so it has a venerable history!
