Description

I'm putting together a care package for my sister-in-law who was just deployed to Afghanistan at the beginning of July.  I have a few handmade items I'll be including.

"TEA" Snack Mat - Foundation paper piecing from Patchwork, Please! by Ayumi Takahashi.  Inspiration to turn the project into a snack mat from +Freakadoodles project: ^tea-mug-rug-teabag-pouch

Quilted pillow sham from Maureen Cracknell tutorial linked below.

Thinking she will love this....and will give her a sense of homeyness while she is so far from home. Really like the fabric the tea cup is made of!

Caribousmom

What a wonderful gift, Rebecca...she will love this.

True

Lovely both the gift and the thought!

Terryt1955

Those purples are wonderful against the linen! And the TEA pattern is so cute. She will think of you every time she sees it. And all her fellow soldiers will be so envious. How long will she be stationed there?

Charwirfs

This will make her day. So many of our neighbors from Fort Lewis, WA are deployed now, many moms. A little piece from home is such a heart felt gift for women like your sister. Sending my best wishes to both of you!

Rebecca

Terryt1955 Thank you- I love the purple with the linen too smile Not sure on the exact timing but likely 4-6 months.

Charwirfs It's hard to think about moms having to be away from their kids for so long. I'm sure my SIL is missing her family horribly. I am hoping the time passes quickly for them.

True Caribousmom Jschlender Thank you!

This is so lovely! Perfect color combo and excellent execution of the project.

Do you like those wonder clips? I see them in the shops, but they are very pricey!

Rebecca

Speattle Thank you! I heart the wonder clips. They are one of my favorite sewing notions. I use them all the time and will often grab them over pins for everything except quilt block piecing. I think they are pretty good for binding and fantastic for things like bag making. I bought mine on Amazon (the price was much more reasonable than my LQS) and now my Joann's carries them so it would be easy to pick them up with a 40% or 50% off coupon.

Speattle

Rebecca Thank you for the tip about JoAnne's!

Rebecca

Speattle You're welcome! My store keeps them by the quilting notions.

This is such a cute idea, Rebecca . I know she will enjoy having something special while away from home.

Skynme

This is really lovely and she will definitely love the beautiful colors...not a lot of beauty or happiness over there, so this beautiful gift will bring happiness for sure.

She is going to love this care package. I love your tea mug rug. You most certainly are going to brighten her day and her time there.
