Description

Thurston County Fair, Olympia, WA has a quilt block contest for their 2014 raffle quilt and this is my entry. They provide the fabric and that was all that could be used to make the block. I enjoyed the challenge because the prints were really colorful and busy. This block is a pieced block and I added two appliqués in the center. Aug. 24, 2013. Big surprise arrived in the mail today. I won a blue ribbon for this block at the Thurston County Fair. I just thought I was entering a block contest for the next raffle quilt. Turns out, every block that was submitted was handled as a fair entry. This blue ribbon is going up on my design wall to provide inspiration for all those UFU's lurking around my studio.

Congratulations!! How cool.

JudyBR

Congratulations! This is a great block. Would you mind if I made one?

Not at all. I copied it off of someone else's post, but I do not have a pattern. It is constructed of 2.5 inch strips and a 4.5 center block all sewn together to make 12.5 unfinished block. I added a smaller block to the center and set it diagonal. That last center block was appliquéd and I cut out
the fabric behind it. Usually there is only the one center block, but I wanted to use more of the lady bug print in the block.

Great job and congrats!! Love how you handled the large print.

Congrats!! I love the ladybug fabric, she's my favorite.

JudyBR I have two versions of that block posted as another project on my studio page. The other version does not have the center squares.

Charwirfs Thanks!
