Description

Today my mom gave my dad the fidget quilt I made him. Fidget quilts are for people with head injuries, Alzheimer's disease. They're a variety of colors and textures for the person to fidget with. My dad's at the end stages of Alzheimer's and is constantly touching and rubbing things. He took right to the quilt. I made it with home dec fabrics and different textures, applique hearts in textures, satin binding, and a minky back. I used 6X6 squares and made it a 6X6 grid. It's meant for sitting in the lap of someone, not a complete covering.  It's not the most esthetically pleasing quilt, but seeing it in my dad's hands makes it one of my very favorites. I completely forgot to take a finished picture of it, but this picture's the best anyway.

I'm so sorry for you but it's wonderful that you can make something so helpful to him.

blessing to you, your mom and Dad. This is such a wonderful gift for him. He may not be able to tell you directly himself but know that he is thinking how lucky he is to have you for a daughter. I work in homecare and have many patients with this disease. I have never thought to suggest someone make a fidget quilt. Just such a great idea and I hope you don't mind if I steal it and suggest it to some of the families,
