Description

Inspired by +Amanda's Holiday Bunting, I decided to make one of these for one of my Pay It Forward gifts.

I'm using Elizabeth Hartman's Refrigerator Magnet block patterns. The C is 5" tall, and with these trial blocks I was aiming for a 5x7 finished block.

After completing two letters of the word "Celebrate," I think I need to make some changes. It's too busy for me, so I'm considering my options:

  • white letters on scrappy background
  • scrappy letters on white background
  • ?

I'd like to do solid letters on the scrappy b/w background I have now, but I don't have many solids and I'm trying to do this with what I have on hand.

Mix it up maybe. I like the red fabric letter on the b&w print. The bright solid seems to work with it. You could just tone down the background by using a mixture of print and solid white backgrounds. The smaller scale b&w works OK. Those spokes on the tires may be the culprit.

I like the idea of using both white and b/w. Hmmm. Thanks so much, Charwirfs .

The white letters on color print backgnd is striking.

Juline

Thanks, Carolmarie . I'm happy with it! I'll mail it off this week sometime.

Amanda

I really love how this turned out! So pretty!

Charwirfs

Love it AND you got to use the cool black white prints too! Way to go!

Mymble

This looks fantastic!

HawkFan

Wow. Looks great. It also looks like it was fun to do (once you settled on your final plan)

I had to use those b/w fabrics, Charwirfs ! I only wish I had thought to use a different print on each side of the block. And it was fun to put together, HawkFan . Makes me want to do something scrappy on a much larger scale, like a slab quilt or something.

HawkFan

I made three slabs for a charity quilt and loved it. A slab quilt is on my (very extensive) to-do list
