I have a couple of those designs! I love Urban Threads! Although I am not a skull person, I do love steampunk. I have one design I use a lot called winged beauty. It is a dress form with butterfly wings. Your towels are great. You used the water soluble behind (under) the design?
Yes, a Floriani soluble. My closest sewing center sells the floriani, so that is what I ended up with.
Sometimes when I have done towels this way, I also iron on that thin tricot stuff that is designed for garments AFTER the embroidery is done (to keep it from scratching, I guess). I do that just to cover up the back side stitching. For these, I matched the bobbin threads to the color of the towels, so the back was not horrible looking at all.
Several months ago I invested in a HUGE pack of various colored bobbins. I mostly use black or white for my embroidery bobbins, but it is nice to have a little bit of other colors too. Because I don't use them all the time, they will last me a long time. Also it is 80 wt thread, so very fine and does a great job.
I'm not into the skully thing either, but I do find a lot of UT designs quite amusing to look at. They have a good selection of more "open" designs that seem to resemble hand stitching and that is what I prefer.
Another awesome gift package!
Not sure why I am seeing this today but I really like all the fun designs and dishcloths.
They are neat, the way they inter-mingle with one another.
Charlie Thanks. I'll be posting a similar package within the next week. The youngest sister (and also my Goddaughter) of this bride is having her shower a week firm now, and I have been busy stitching up a variety of items for her too.
I saw the next installment, Very nice!
Charlie Thanks. Now I need to find a good basket. The one design I always usesd to buy has been discontinued at Cost Plus World Market.
Have you considered making one yourself with the stiff interfacing? Otherwise, I comb Salvation Army stores and yard sales. Let us see what you find! Or, another idea: a silverware/paper plate holder with all your goodies in the slots might work.
Charlie No, I've done enough sewing for this gift for a while. I was able to get a nice one in the perfect color and size at the Michaels that is close to our home and it was 40% off.
I do like the idea abut the paper plate cutlery holder.
I agree Speattle, you have worked hard and great find at Michaels. Love the money saved with the coupons. You may know this already but A.C. Moore, Michaels and Joann's will honor each other's coupons, although Joann;s is the only one which honors several in one transaction. Great job!
I've never seen ACMoore (guess they are not around here). I am lucky that I have a Michaels within a mile of my home, but Joanne is pretty far away. (although the Joanne I do sometimes venture to is in the same mall as a Michaels).
Oh, I didn't realize ACMoore may not be 'everywhere' :-) Hmm, around here (Boston area) the ACMoore's are sometimes in a mall but most of the Michaels are stand-alone. Anyway, blessings to you as you create beautiful gifts.
