I made this pillow as part of the Simply Retro Sew-Along, but also because I was inspired by this pillow which I made for my sister a few weeks ago:
I loved the idea of fresh, modern fabrics in yellow and gray while using a retro style block. The pattern, Playground, may be found on page 53 of Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley (visit the Flickr group for the sew along to see more interpretations of this pattern).
This is a super simple block to make and I decided to highlight its details with echo-style quilting. The back uses some great fabrics: charcoal dots, text, ruler fabric, and a red flowers and birds – all scraps and pieces from my stash. Once again I installed a hidden zipper to make this pillow truly reversible. Bound with some terrific charcoal leaf fabric from Simply Color by V & Co … this pillow just makes me smile!
Would you please stop posting pillows I absolutely love!!! Another awesome one...I am actually picking up the other book you recommended from librbary tonight!
Forgot to add LOVE use of the text fabric!
True LOL - thanks! I am totally loving this book!!! And I love how the blocks are huge so I can easily turn a block into a pillow :)
Love it. Great back. Gee, I should have joined this this group. And of course, Yellow and gray. Love it.
yup. I just notices the leaves on the fabric. It is great. My favorite is the "tape measure" fabric in the back. Just too cute.
Can't decide which one I like, this one or the one you made for your sister. Guess I'll call it a draw. Both are equally awesome
Yummy yellow and gray fabric!! I am really liking the simplicity of a huge block for the front. Shows off all the great fabric! Youz the zipper Queen!
You are making a serious run for Pillow Queen here- looks like another winner- and love the yellow!
I forgot to ask what the yellow "stripe" material is? Is it Glimma? It's the bomb.
Mymble LOL - thanks, Margaret. I love making pillows!
