Description

I like slash and insert...and I recently learned to do gently curved and narrow inserts in a class taught by Rosalie Dace at Sisters' Quilters' Affair. So the newly formed Improvi Robin Hood seemed a great place to experiment.

Oct 15 Just finished my addition to +chandra's starter. It is quite different from the ideas I started with, but the longer I looked, the more it asked for this treatment.  +janepez have fun with it!

Nov 3. Just finished my addition to Marsha's block that I received from Chandra. I'll be mailing it sometime this week. As I look at it, I think Attack on a Submarine with sparks erupting. Kinda funny because star image doesn't usually suggest war. If I had it to do over, I might have made three triangles instead of two; but I'm not doing it over. :-) ETA maker's identity.

Nov 30, 2013 I just finished my addition to +charwirf 's starter--this is its the third addition. I put my blog link in the tutorial box; it isn't a tutorial, but a discussion of design decisions for those who want more detail. +janepez I am not rushing to the post office, but will mail it when I have another errand in the neighborhood. I'll try to remember to let you know whenI do send it.

Jan 14, 2014  I just finished this month's block +ArloDean 's I think. Details on my blog http://knitnkwilt.wordpress.com/2014/01/14/improvi-robin-time/ One more round to go for this one, and my last one is in the mail.

Feb 12, 2014 Just got the last traveling addition made for +janepez and put it in the mail. Now I'm on pins and needles waiting to see what mine will look like when it comes home +chandra . This has been a lot of fun and I hope everyone posts their finished products. I want to see.

Feb 20, 2014 I received my starter back. Love it! It had a Wizard of Oz theme developing and I think the last addition is the storm that got Dorothy to Oz: I see gray rain clouds, green fields and the yellow sun that makes rainbows. It is 35 x 27; the houses set the orientation. I have no wall space so wall hanging is not an option.  I'm thinking child quilt 40 x 40 or 40 x 60 or bunk quilt for AIDS camp 50 x 75.

This will be a fun block to add rounds. You literally put all the colors of the rainbow on this. It is also a great base for adding a variety of shapes. Looking forward to getting this one when it's my turn.

ArloDeanQuilts

My brain is already working on this one. So excited for our Round Robin Hood to start!!

ArloDeanQuilts

Your addition to Chandra's starter reminds me of a waterfall. :)

Clairealex

ArloDeanQuilts Now that you mention it, I can see it; I was thinking spotlights--works up or down. :-)

Charwirfs

First thing I saw was the light from her block continuing into the part you added, so I guess I see the spot light part. I like it. Love the color theme. Jane has a nice extension to work with.

Quilterinmotion

I really like the gentle curves but especially the change from the lights to the blues. Well done.

Clairealex
Chandra

I love your curve and just everything about this Clairealex , thank you! This is so much fun.

Clairealex

Chandra Since it is your block, I am especially glad that you like it. :-)

Quilterinmotion

Clairealex , I love the addition to my block. The two diamonds really look like they belong! Thanks so much for a very pretty addition. No need to "do again". Marsha

Mouseinmypocket

Look great!

Charwirfs

This block is really looking good. I like the additions so far. Good repetition of shapes and colors. I will be the last in line to get this. Hope I do it justice...

Clairealex

Quilterinmotion I always feel relieved when the starter likes an addition. :-) Thanks.

Clairealex

Charwirfs Each challenge in a round robin is so different. The first one sets the tone somewhat, though there is the start to relate to. The next several pick up "something" and hopefully open up "something." The last one gets to finalize it, though the owner may make more additions. I love getting into territory where I"d not normally walk.

Quilterinmotion

Clairealex , I agree with you. The relief is palpable when you get the word that the "starter" likes what she/he sees! Charwirfs , you get to tie up the loose ends on mine!

Charwirfs

It will be a pleasure, but cha know...it will still make me nervous. Just finishing My round on Jane's cupcake. Yes, it has fussy cuts.

Charwirfs

Wow Clairealex, nice addition. Love the blue scattered throughout and the birds. I also like the shapes everyone is using. The garden theme is strong. I am putting finishing touches on you center now. Will post a pic soon.

Clairealex

Charwirfs Glad you are happy! I'll look for the photo of mine with its new look.

Charwirfs

Clairealex the photo is being posted now. I am a little nervous about this one. I did very little to it, but changed it a lot. I like it and hope you like the new direction I steered it.

Clairealex

Charwirfs The only new one i see is the cupcake one (not mine); I like the addition.

Charwirfs

Nice addition Claire. Your fabric choices added a new look, but kept things open for another round. I had not seen a photo of this one for awhile, I did not see the other wonky churn dashes that were added. I just sent Chandra's block to Marsha.

Charwirfs

Wow! I have not seen this for several months! Looks great Claire. I love the wider additions and larger scale graphics added to this WIP, as it opens up some creative space for quilting. This is the one going to a fund raiser, right?!? Jane, Please post a photo of what you add to this and how you finish it.

Chandra

I love the fabric Clairealex added to ArloDeanQuilts ! That one had such a distinctive palette I really wanted to stay within it. I like the way the rounds have come together. I think that was also my most challenging round in part because of my limited fabrics in that colorway and even when I went shopping the pinks and greens were clearer and brighter than I would have liked to add to the wonky churn dash. I really enjoyed working on all these pieces and I'm glad I could participate.
