Description

I saw these on +Whatthebobbin 's blog (she includes a link to the pattern) and she has a project page here on TB and I had to make some. These are addicting and they're a good way to use up some scraps. This is my first real attempt at paper piecing and it was nice to start with something easy and fun. I have a lot of fun fabrics that work well with these blocks and I have a lot more planned

I want to host a swap of these as part of the Progressive Swap group but am going to wait until January. Hopefully there'll be enough interest. I may also join in Whatthebobbin's next round of swaps if I get enough made in time.

Sept 8, 2013 - made several more of these. A couple of them are off on the points so those I would definitely keep for myself.

Sept 10, 2013 - up to 27 with a lot more center squares cut ready to be matched with accent fabrics.

Added a few more. As addictive as chocolate.

Oct 22, 2013 - I made 24 for a swap +whatthebobbin is hosting and made more for myself too.

Kat

The cat is awesome! :)

HawkFan

Thanks Kat - that's my favorite one

True

I just love this block in general but really love it with the fussy cuts! Yours are awesome...I love the bike one as well as cat...oh I love them all!!

Juline

I love these! The cat and the VW van are my favorite.

HawkFan

Thanks True - it does lend itself so well to fussy cuts. I could probably spend hours coming up with combinations.

HawkFan

Thanks Juline - I like the cat the best and my daughter's favorite is the giraffe

Clairealex

Cute, cute! The fabric you put with the VW Bus is perfect!

HawkFan

Clairealex - Thank you! I was so happy to find a few pieces of that fabric in my scrap bin. I have no idea why I had it either.

Love the blocks. I am in for the progressive swap in January. This is a great swap idea.

HawkFan

Drnic2c - Sounds good. The biggest problem I'm going to have with the swap is giving some of these blocks up. I'm just going to have to make multiples of them.

Terryt1955

SO much fun to look at all these cute blocks! How big is the center square?

HawkFan

Terryt1955 - I fussy cut them 2.5 inches square minimum (usually more like 3) and it finishes at 2 inches. The overall block is 4.5 unfinished.

True

great new additions!

I made six today. I needed something for my improve-robin and it worked great for the project. Of course, I made 1 for myself. They come together really quickly.

HawkFan

Drnic2c - I hope you post them. I'd love to see what you did and how you put them together for the robin. They are fast once you get your fabrics selected

Mymble

These are wonderful- love your fabric choices!

Caribousmom

These are fantastic! I can see where they would be totally addictive to make!

Kat

OMG the ninja! smile

HawkFan

Kat - yeah that may be my new favorite one

Terryt1955

Just scrolled thru all your blocks. What an amazing assortment! I want to play in your stash! They are all so cute it's hard to pick a favorite, so I won't. But you definitely are making me want to join the band wagon.

HawkFan

Terryt1955 - Thanks! I do have way more fabric than I should but I'm working on using it up. Of course, 4-inch finished squares isn't the most efficient way to do it (but it sure is fun).

Terryt1955

Well these would make the most amazing border on a quilt that's for sure! And you would need a lot so there you have reason to keep on making them while using up your stash. Do you have a dedicated sewing room where your stash is all organized? I could see how this project could make your area look like a bomb went off. At least that's how I tend to work, spread out all over the place!

True

Love new blocks...that sheep is so cute! Love how many fussy cut fabrics you have...

HawkFan

Terryt1955 - I share a sewing room with my husband's office. We had lots of great stuff built in but I spread out in to the family room where my stuff covers the foosball table and other surfaces. It does look like a fabric bomb exploded when I'm putting together combinations. I usually get it picked up at the end of the day or at least neatly stacked.

HawkFan

True - I bought a couple of fabric bundles that I got a lot from and have found things in charm packs I've bought. I've also gotten random bits included in with etsy orders too.

True

HawkFan well they sure are awesome!

HawkFan
Whatthebobbin

Love the ninjas, sheep, grumpy black cat, shark....all of them!

HawkFan

Whatthebobbin - thanks - that means a lot coming from the Queen of these blocks! and thanks for giving me the idea in the first place.

Whatthebobbin

HawkFan Well I didn't invent the block. I am certainly this blocks biggest fan though :)

Charwirfs

So stink in' cute...every all of them! Love how you matched each fussy cut to surrounding fabrics. Each block becomes a framed pic.

HawkFan

Thank you so much Charwirfs - I think I enjoy these so much because I don't have to visualize an entire quilt. I did try to match fabrics, not just color-wise but also design elements and/or texture. I so appreciate your "artist's eye" feedback

janepez

I like them all! Where on earth did you find narwhal fabric??

HawkFan

janepez - I got it at a LQS and I think she still had some when I was in there recently. It's "out to sea" - michael miller fabrics. It's got whales and narwhals. These blocks are so much fun to put together. When I host the March swap, this is what I'm picking

True

This it like watching a great movie...flipping through these...love them.

Ranchmom

I love these, very cute.

Skynme

I love these blocks...I don't even think I could pick a favorite, because I loved so many of them. Super cute!

Readerowl

I'm going to have to make some of these, but you set the bar very high. You have awesome blocks!

HawkFan

True - what an interesting description - I can see that, a cartoon movie! Thanks!

HawkFan

Thanks Ranchmom - there are a lot of cute fabrics out there to have fun with

HawkFan

Thank you Carolmarie - the lady is from the Ghastlies series which I love. The cat with the pink border is from that series too.

HawkFan

Thanks Skynme - I know how you feel - I have several favorites and keep adding to the list as I go

HawkFan

Thank you Readerowl - I will warn you though, they are addicting. Great way to use up scraps too!

sew_what

So cool. They're all really creative, but I especially like the ninja.

Whatthebobbin

OH my goodness..that owl is too cute! Does he have a mustache and glasses!?

HawkFan

Whatthebobbin - yes he does! Too funny, right!?

HawkFan

sew_what - thank you. The ninja is definitely one of my favorites too! As soon as I saw that fabric I had to have it

Kathie

I just love these and that owl (with a mustache??) I have to have!! I saw this project and wanted to join but I'm afraid to start one more thing. Hmmmm . . . maybe after Christmas??

HawkFan

Thanks Kathie - I will be hosting a swap of these in March here on ThreadBias as part of the progressive swap group. Aren't those owls great - found them on etsy.

Drnic2c

Okay, I must say that I am sooooooo jealous of the fabrics in your stash. These are great blocks. Keep up the inspiration. Can't wait until March for the progressive march.

HawkFan

Drnic2c - I am seriously addicted to fussy-cut-friendly fabrics. I waste far too much time looking online but they're so much fun!!

Drnic2c

HawkFan

Now I know your secret source. Can't wait to start looking.

HawkFan
Boopsi

I love these blocks. I took part in the Christmas block exchange and had so much fun. Let me know if you do a swap. Thanks, Michelle

HawkFan

Boopsi Michelle - I've got your name on my list of people to notify when I set the swap up. These are so addicting and the swaps are a lot of fun. It's great to see what other people come up with
