Description

Grand baby boy #2 is scheduled to arrive Nov. 22nd (and hopefully he'll make his appearance before we are in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner). I've been collecting an assortment of blues and greens and then happened upon Camille Roskelley's Little Man pattern from her first book and it all clicked. I don't know if it was the name of the pattern or the fact that it showcases fabric nicely or a combination of the two.

9/14/13 Been busy assembling the blocks and probably half way done. The baby shower (I didn't know for the 2nd baby it was called a
"Sprinkle") is October 19th so I'm hoping to get it done in time. I'm really happy with this color combination!

9/16/13 Only one more row to attach and on to the borders. The pattern calls for adding borders to just the top and bottom. Now that I can get behind! Why do I hate doing borders?

9/17 borders done. Yay. Now on to piecing the back. My least favorite part of the project.

9/20/13 After cruising around on Pinterest I landed on a pieced back that I thought I could adapt with relative ease. It takes time to go through all the left over fabric to see if you have a big enough remnant to make it work! Fortunately I had bought other fabric that didn't end up on the front of the quilt but still worked for the back. I also only had to make 2 more of the blocks from the front so that I could have a row of them for the back. All in all it wasn't as bad as I expected and I don't dread "piecing" the backs anymore! I love the look of pieced backs but just dreaded the process.

10/19/13 Finished! And the Sprinkle isn't until Nov.2nd so done in plenty of time. That's a first! I went with a pieced binding and though it adds a lot of time onto the project I'm glad I did.

11/27/13 The grandbaby arrived! Still no name decided on but all went well AND fast. Mom and baby get to come home tomorrow just in time for Thanksgiving. Yay!

I love the color combinations that you're using. In fact, I think I recognize some of your fabrics - they're in my stash, too :)

True

Oh I really love, love, love the colors and fabrics! This is going to be an awesome baby's quilt...I did not know it was called a sprinkle either!

HawkFan

Wow, I say ditto to what Mary said - such pretty fabrics. This will be gorgeous

Terryt1955

caitcreates Thanks! You have excellent taste, LOL. But seriously, I had a field day over at Intrepid Thread picking out the fabric for this one.

Terryt1955

True Thanks! I was going for a non-baby look but still something that was fresh and calming. Quite the opposite of what I made for grand son #1. Then again, that was my first quilt and I had no idea how to pick fabric.

Laweigel

Love this! Great colors with all that fresh, crisp white!

Terryt1955

Carolmarie Exactly what I was going for, calming. So glad to hear I wasn't the only one who never heard of a Sprinkle! Makes sense and is rather cute though.

Terryt1955

HawkFan Thanks! I'm hoping it will look baby chic!

Terryt1955

Laweigel Thanks, I'm a big fan of the crisp clean white even though it's a risk with a baby quilt!

ArloDeanQuilts

How exciting and congrats! I love the colors!

Conniharns

Terryt this is beautiful. Those colors are perfect for a baby boy! We just had Grand baby girl # 2 last week!! I haven't started her quilt yet but plan to soon! I have never heard of a "Sprinkle" shower but that is adorable!!

Caribousmom

Terry - I love the fabrics you've chosen for this beautiful quilt! So great. Can't wait to see it all done. Wow, that baby will be here before you know it!!!!

Terryt1955

Conniharns Congrats on grandbaby girl #2!! I'm so glad someone is producing girls because it's been all boys in my daughter's circle. I made 6 quilts for boys last year and now we're on round 2!
Have you picked out a pattern yet? I can so see this one done up in "girlie" colors!

Terryt1955

ArloDeanQuilts Thanks! I'm done with all the blocks and will be starting on making the rows today. Thank God it's cool this weekend for a change!

Terryt1955

Caribousmom Thanks! When I look at this it reminds me of the beach. I am just loving these colors lately.

Sblprl1

Fun design!

HawkFan

Terry - totally baby chic - or maybe beach baby chic...

Terryt1955

HawkFan Cute names! I keep saying Beach Baby Bingo in my mind and I have NO idea why. What was the name of that old Elvis movie?

HawkFan

Beach Blanket Bingo was a Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello movie. I know because my husband mentions it from time to time. The bad guy was Eric von Zipper which has always stuck with him

Terryt1955

So I was close! Well at least as far a s the title. Obviously didn't recall it was Frankie and not Elvis. That is funny that your husband would still remember Eric von Zipper.

HawkFan

Oh my gosh, don't get me started on my husband and the whole Eric von Zipper thing. He can be such a goofball sometimes. I think he's told me about the movie a hundred times.

Terryt1955

I"m married to one of those too! I claim it's the engineer border line Asperger's in him! He just can't help himself even though he KNOWS he has told me the same thing a hundred times.

True

You are cruising' along!!

Kathie

I love the blues and the pattern is so cute and looks like it comes together quickly! Hey, I think I have that book . . . I'd better go check. Congrats on the new little grand baby, they are so much fun to cuddle.

Terryt1955

Kathie Thanks! In the book she has chose some very neutral fabric so it doesn't jump out and grab you. But this would be a great pattern to showcase any fabric (John Deere tractor, Cute little girl fabric, or whatever your heart desires!)

Terrysim

What great fabrics and colors, and the pattern makes this a quilt that will go way beyond the baby years. I'm looking forward to seeing how you will quilt this!

Terryt1955

Terrysim YIkes I have no idea! But it will have to be some version of straight line quilting because I'm too chicken to try FMQ. Any suggestions???

Terrysim

I suggest... trying FMQ!!! What better time to try it than on a quilt for your own grandson?! Every time you see it you will remember how you bravely expanded your boundaries. Maybe that would be a good name for the quilt: Brave Boy!

True

Terry this is just beautiful...I love the borders and the colors amazing!! Your new little one is going to love this for years and years.

Terryt1955

Terrysim What a great name, "Brave Boy" but I think I'm going with "Chicken S%!@ Grandma!" I just can't take that step yet. Forgive me!

Terryt1955

True Thanks! Going store shopping at Intrepid Thread made it a snap to pick out the fabric. She has SO many wonderful bolts of amazing fabric. You need to come to San Jose for that alone!

Mymble

What a wonderful baby quilt!-yes yes, baby chic for sure:)

Terrysim

HAHA! smile It will be perfect, whatever you decide to do! "Made with love" - can't go wrong!!

Terrysim

Love the back!!!

True

Great back!!!

Caribousmom

What a great back, Terry!!! See it is not so bad after all :)

HawkFan

I think the dreading it is worse than the actual doing it - at least it usually is for me. It looks great!

Quilt455

Love the back. Now you are going to be hooked and want to piece all your backs. I just love the colors, they seem so calm to me. He is going to be all cozy under it. You go grandma.

Terryt1955

Thank you all ( Terrysim , True , Caribousmom , HawkFan , Quilt455 ). I got so pumped up by finishing this back that I finally started on Travis's Quilt back. Maybe I'm finally going to get through my pile of UFO's!

Jenhighfill

Love pieced backs! Working on right now. I just love using up all the remaining fabric from the project. Great job!!!

Terryt1955

Jenhighfill Thanks! It doers take a "bit" more time planning it though doesn't it? But well worth it when it's all done.

True

Love the scrappy binding!! This is beautiful and looks so pretty and cozy all folded and ready to go. What a beautiful quilt for the new little one!!

HawkFan

I haven't done a pieced binding yet but that's my plan for my son's quilt just back from the long-arm quilter. I love the look of yours.

Terryt1955

Carolmarie Thanks! I think I'm loving this quilt enough to put in in my top 5. For whatever reason I am loving this color combination. And thanks for the cheering on my UFO pile. I have so many future projects floating in my head that I'm dying to get started on.

Terryt1955

HawkFan You'll love the results of a pieced binding! They are such a punch of fun!

Strandkorbtraum

It turned out beautifully Terry!

Caribousmom

Terry, it came out BEAUTIFULLY!!!!

Terryt1955

Caribousmom THANKS!! I'm glad I'm keeping this in the family. Such a far cry from the 1st quilt I did (for grand baby#1).

Conniharns

Terry this came out so cute. Love these colors and so fresh for your new boy bambino! The back came out great also..it's perfect!!

Quilt455

Wow Terry, this is wonderful. He is going to be enjoying this for many years to come. Great love the color of it. Great job my friend.

Terryt1955

Thanks Conniharns and + Quilt455! I am happy with the fabric I chose. I was shooting for fresh! I may regret having so much white in it but they'll just have to keep their 170 lb mastif off it!

True

Congrats on the little one's arrival and in time to join you for Thanksgiving!! So exciting.

Jenniffier

love the colors. It turned out fantastic

HawkFan

Congrats on the new little one! Happy Thanksgiving!!

Readerowl

Congratulations on the quilt and grandson. You have to edit your information on your studio page now you know! It still says grandmother of 1.

Joke
