Alice's Apron 2013 by Speattle
Embroidery & Embellishments
I've started sewing on my granddaughter's Halloween costume. This year she will be nearly 3 and be going as Alice in Wonderland. She has the blonde curly hair to go with the character. Her baby sister will be going as the Cheshire cat!
So, it turns out that Simplicity has the perfect pattern to use. My daughter bought the fabric and gave it to me.
So far, I have completed the apron. To add a little extra, I used the Alice design in my embroidery machine to embellish the front of the apron. I'd never embroidered on satin before, but it worked perfectly. I used a press and stick stabilizer so that I would not have to hoop the satin and risk burning a crease into it. Used a 75 embroidery needle, and Madeira Polyneon thread.
I will say the construction of this apron is a bit of a pain. The illustrations in the pattern are not very clear and putting the apron waistband facing on would be a challenge for a beginner. As it was, even this seasoned sewist had trouble with it and ended up doing it a bit differently than the instructions state, but in the end it is all together and it works.
Now, to make the blue dress :dress:
