Jelly Roll Jam by Joke

I loved the free pattern released by Fat Quarter Shop -- the Jelly ROll Jam, so when they had 20% off Jelly Rolls to celebrate this pattern, I bought a couple (some for me and some to put aside for my mum for Christmas - though I'm eyeing off the stash I am building up for her!!).

I made this with a jelly roll of Briar Rose by Heather Ross. When this fabric was announced, I wasn't too thrilled with it, and even after receiving the jelly roll, I didn't like the pieces - as separates. But after seeing some quilts, and even my quilt put together using it, the patterns and fabrics look so great together! It's only a small jelly roll - 20 strips which I thought was perfect as it was (cheaper) and I only needed to not use two pieces. I ended up taking out the frog/lake fabric because I thought cutting it up smaller would lose its charm. As there then ended up being no blue in the quilt, I settled on a solid blue binding.

The backing is a piece of Ikea fabric I found in their remnant bin a couple of years ago, that I've had sitting around. I thought the woodsy theme was the perfect use for this quilt. I had a couple of puckers on the back but this quilt wasn't planned for anything other than "I can do it because I can" so it doesn't bother me (I'm thinking of making a wall in my hallway a gallery wall and hanging this up there, so it won't be seen anyway!)

I also am very proud of myself for FMQ it -- WITH SWIRLS!! So now I can do, swirls, loops and stipples and sometimes the occasional loopy heart. I love how the swirls make the quilt look more whimsical with the fairy-taleish theme.

The quilt was really quick to put together! I received my box of fabric last Tuesday just before 3pm, and started quilting it by that evening! I finished the binding this past Saturday. Had I received my package earlier in the day, I probably would have finished this within the one day. I can't wait for more of FQS Shortcut quilts

Sweet! I bought a jelly roll on that sale too, and downloaded the pattern. Plan on making it for my brother and sister-in-law for Christmas. Glad it went as fast as they said.

Readerowl Are you going to use the whole roll for the quilt? This only comes out quite small - 36x36" or will it be a baby gift? :)

This is a great quilt...I love the backing. I did not love this fabric either but when I see it in quilts like yours I like it a whole bunch! And congrats on quilting. Love your nasturtiums in of my favorite flowers!

Joke . I was thinking of adding rows/colums and making it bigger, using more of the roll. It is Christmas fabric and would be a throw quilt.

Gorgeous! The backing is so adorable. :)
