Description

I recently purchased a charm pack of Bluebird Park (by Kate & Birdie Paper Co. for Moda) from Stash Fabrics to bump up my total for free shipping.  I didn't really have a plan for it and almost didn't buy it (almost got a second charm pack of Scrumptious instead), but I thought it'd be good to have in the stash for a baby quilt.  I was right!  It is the perfect fabric for a sweet baby quilt without being TOO sweet.  A great color palette for boys too, and not too flowery.

I sewed it up using a great (but old) tutorial on Moda Bake Shop, because I had all the fabric on hand to do so, and because it used a technique I hadn't tried before - prairie points!

I really enjoyed this project.  It was an easy-sew, and I love the colors here.  Normally I don't use brown tones, but I had a big cut of this Connecting Threads Latte solid (and a giant spool of matching thread) laying around from a past abandoned project.  When I noticed it matches perfectly with the Bluebird Park line, I knew it was kismet.  I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised here.  I didn't know if I would like it at first, but I knew the recipient would like the colors so I went with it.  Well I LOVE it.

I finished the top in a day, and just returned from Joann's with some batting and white stripe minky for the back.  No idea on the binding yet, hopefully there's something in the stash that will work.

I will be quilting with FMQ, varying the pattern in the pinwheel area and the two borders.  Not sure yet how I'll do it.

Conniharns Thanks! I was just thinking of making this again with Scrumptious for my cousin if the baby she's carrying is a girl. :)
