Description

I love fabric with a little big of gold, like oriental fabrics.  But then I also discovered that Christmas fabrics have gold in them too.  So I bought a bunch of pretty Christmas fabrics.  Then I found 2 projects in magazines and combined them and came up with this quilt.  A friend remarked that it looked like the reindeer were passing by Santa's windows.  So I named the quilt "auditioning for santa".  It won 3rd place in the large pieced quilt category of the Sauder Village Quilt Show in 2012.

I quilted this one myself using gold metallic thread.

Very pretty. How did you find quilting with metallic thread? Did you do the quilting by machine or by hand?

Mouseinmypocket I did the quilting myself. I have a Tin Lizzie 26. My distributor carries Superior Thread and they have a line of metallic thread. I know that metallic and monofilament can be very finicky, so I wasn't sure how successful I would be with it. But I just took it slow and it turned out great.

Love the quilt and the name of it! Yea, another Tin Lizzie Ansley owner! I LOVE Superior thread...I guess I can get away with saying that even tho I've probably only quilted 20 quilts!

+sobuzy Nice to connect with another Tin Lizzie owner. I do LOVE superior thread, too. I had to start a business to pay for my machine. I got my machine in July 2011. I quilt at least 70 quilts a year. That includes making t-shirt quilts from start to finish for my clients. I have lots of fun, even though most of my own quilt tops never get quilted. But it's okay - someday.....
