Baby girl quilt by Pompom
My niece is pregnant and her husband doesn't like surprises so they found out it's a girl. I decided to go simple with the design for her quilt as I'm loving the look of traditional square patchwork and I happen to have a heap of beautiful child friendly fabrics in my stash right now. My absolute favourite is the Storybook classics Bubblegum Flower in red, also in there, Sweetest Thing, Simple Life, Charlevoix, Lovely, October Afternoon, Modern Whimsy Vine along with a few Kona solids and pink Oakshott weaves, the backing is a gorgeous flannel from Riley Blake and I used a pretty pink and white polka dot bias binding. I only use 100% cotton wadding in my baby quilts so there's no great loft but I like the vintage, creased look caused by the small amount of wadding shrinkage. The squares measure 3+1/2 inches finished and the quilt is 38x44 inches so a good size and can be used when she's a toddler as well. Pictures 1-3 were taken in natural light, 4-5 under house lights and you can see the difference in the warmth created by the unnatural light.
