Description

I've never made a pillow before and the upcoming Pillow Pop Sew Along inspired me to attempt to make a pillow to match the quilt I've made for my mother in law for Christmas (Road to Avalon). I used one of the house blocks from the pattern DWELL out of Camille Roskelley's book Simply Retro. This was a super fun and quick block to make! I could definitely see myself making this quilt, or even some kind of 'Home, Sweet, Home' wall hanging in my future!

I have plenty of the Grunge Basic in red, so I used that for the house. I had a couple of left over charm squares of Road 15 left over, so I used one of them for the chimney (I thought the graph-like pattern sort of looked like bricks!) and then used a few remaining charms on the back. I made an envelope back (was easier for me as I have never sewn a zip in my life!!).

I also used the same fabric for the pillow binding as the quilt to add to their matchi-ness.

13/11/13:
After seeing pictures of the cushion, my mum requested she wanted one too, in the same colours! I used up some more of the Cherry Christmas fabric, to match with the Christmas table thing I made here. I haven't put on a binding yet; not sure if I will, but I can't decide what to use. At first I was thinking one of the blue/aqua prints to add a bit of colour contrast?

1/12/13:
I started wrapping these up in Christmas paper, and decided for my mum's cushion, it needed a binding, so I cut up the remaining aqua robin print from Cherry Christmas to use. I'm happy with the end result; it gives it more of a finished look, I think :)

Love your pillow with all the added details from the green brick chimney to the stripe binding. Your MIL will be so happy when she opens this big package up!

I hope so Terryt1955 !! She's had some difficulty with housing lately, and is living with her own mother for now. My husband thinks I'm teasing her by giving her "house" reminders! I hope she doesn't see it that way :( I only picked the house block because I thought it really complimented the house theme from the Road 15 fabric in the quilt! I don't need another reason for my mother in law to hate me, haha!
