Cross Stitch Cushion Covers by DM82
Home & Decoration
I wanted to do some cross stitch but it's been years since I did any and I really don't have the time or patience to do it at a normal scale. So I took a traditional floral motif, expanded the design with some touches of my own and then enlarged it so it would fit on a 30cm x 30cm cushion. Each 'X' was then 1cm square.
I then transferred the design to tissue paper and used a temporary fabric adhesive to ensure it stayed in place. The fabric was cut so that the cushion is made from one continuous piece of fabric.
Enlarging the design made it much easier and quicker to get the cross stitch look that I wanted while also making a textured cushion cover. The backing fabric is calico for no other reason than I really like calico! But I think it helps the design to pop.
When the cross stitch was complete, the cushion was sewn up before a quick wash to get rid of any residue from the adhesive.
I have 4 cushion covers planned to represent the 4 different seasons.
Spring - pink, lilac, green
Summer - fuchsia pink, turquoise blue, bright yellow
Autumn - burgandy, copper brown, beige
Winter - denim blue, baby blue, pale grey.
