Description

This will be a present for friends.  +terryt1955 showed me the tree block and I just loved it and it is a quick and easy block to make.  I had this fabric (mainly Valori Wells) that I loved but have not used and decided it would be perfect!  I had originally used something different for the "trunk" and it drove me nuts all day at work so tonight took the 10 minutes it took to rip it out and redo and I am much happier (now I can sleep tonight;-)  Have to finish up the quilting and make a "Wendy" back.

Update 12-7-13 Messed up measurements as I was tired so had to add another border to front. Finished quilting and back and now just need to add binding.  Think will be using dark charcoal gray as I like it best of options I have on hand.

Done 12-8-13

Mymble

Oh I love this-it has a beautiful delicate look with those great fabrics- very wintery! Lucky recipient!

HawkFan

Love this!! It will make a wonderful pillow. What a nice gift

Terryt1955

Ca you hear me saying "Ahhh" from California? I do't know what I like better, the fabulous striped border or the great fabric you chose for the trees! And I was just looking at the trunk wondering why you weren't so keen on it then read your Project Page and saw you had replaced the original one.

True

Carolmarie Thank you it is a blizzard! Snow coming at ya in force;-)

True

Mymble I love these fabrics...and have another from collection I hope to use on back! Thank you.

True

HawkFan Thank you...I am so glad Caribousmom got me hooked on pillow making they are awesome and fun!

True

Terryt1955 Thank you for showing this to me...and when I could not stop obsessing about that darn trunk knew I had to change it! Check out Thesewingchick 's blog today I HAVE to make her pillow next.

Terryt1955

Just checked out Tessa's Ornament Pillow http://thesewingchick.blogspot.com/ and it IS adorable! Oh why do I have to work when there are so many things I want to make! On a good note my finger is quickly healing and no longer bleeding onto the fabric so it looks like tonight might be magical....

True

Terryt1955 great news about finger! Let the sewing resume;-)

True

Carolmarie I will keep you posted;-)!!

Mymble

True Checked out the too cute ornament pillow....think I may need to jump on that train and make one too:)...thanks for the heads up and Terryt1955 so glad your finger is healing:)

Caribousmom

LOVE this one, Mary - your fabric choices are awesome!!! And love the tree trunk :)

True

Caribousmom thank you...I think you have created a new addiction for me! And Mymble isn't it the cutest... I had seen a similar one but did not have Tessa's awesome tutorial. I will try to convert to a 18" square if I like it well enough since I already have a pillow form and zipper for that size.

Stamdl

So adorable! I am so looking forward to making pillows this year. I always admire them... I need some... now I MUST make some. The PillowPop sew a long will help me get started - can't wait!

True

Stamdl thank you I cannot wait to finish it...work keeps me away;-)

Terryt1955

Carolmarie wink, wink, thanks!

Quilt455

This is sew cute. Love how the boarder matches the top of your tree. Thanks for the tutorial

Terryt1955

I like the dark gray for the binding. It draws your eye towards the center of that lovely tree. The backing material is so pretty. By any chance did Valorie Wells make that great Elephant fabric you used on your quilt?

DM82

This is amazing - I love it :)

True

Terryt1955 you are so smart...yes she did. I love this fabric butit is hard to use as it is such big prints...would make an awesome backing fabric. Thanks for comment on gray I have been debating it in my dreams all night! I just do not have anything else I really like with it.

True

DM82 thank you!

Terryt1955

The grey turned out great for the binding? What size pillow form are you using? I think you could go up the next size to fill that baby out.

True

Terryt1955 Thanks...it is the type of form I bought that is issue...it is 16 x 16" but poofier than what I have been using and so seems smaller. Next size up is too big for cover...but when I get a chance I am going to go to Joann's and buy the brand I have used for some others and hope it fills it better. I got this one via Amazon awhile ago, and had it in closet so used it, but do not like it as well for this exact reason. Same issue with one I got from Amazon for my nephew's pillow but less obvious and think with use will fill it out better. Live and learn!

HawkFan

I had the same issue with a pillow form I got from Amazon. I thought I had just ordered the wrong thing. Now I know not to order from them again. Love seeing all the closeups of this pillow - I absolutely love it!

True

HawkFan thank you...I usually love Amazon things (I am addicted) but clearly the make of this pillow is not what I like! I was comparing it to my 18" form and it really is a different shape (if that makes any sense)

Sewbusy64

awesome pillow!

Caribousmom

Mary this is one of my favorite pillows EVER! I love it! The back is so great...well, everything is great about it. Perfect colors, great pattern...really awesome. I'm trying to think of more adjectives! LOL!

sew_what

Nice!

True

Sewbusy64 sew_what Caribousmom thank you! Wendy I love all your adjectives.

Mymble

Great finish Mary!

True

Terryt1955 See if you like the new forms better:-) And HawkFan when I compared the pillow form I had gotten from Amazon and the one I picked up today the first one looked considerably smaller! I am going to try making a pillow cover just 16" total for the two I have and see if that works and not order again! Thanks Mymble you all give me confidence the recipient will like these as well:-)

True

Carolmarie thank you...do you just stuff it into cover or how do you make it work?

Thesewingchick

Mary, this is such a great pillow!! You are inspiring me!! To chime in on the pillow form conversation, I really prefer feather inserts because they make for a nice poofy pillow. If I need to make a form, I also use the Cluster Stuff that Carol uses. It reshapes nicely.

True

Thesewingchick thank you so much!! Given all the inspiration you give me I am glad to be able to give some back!

Terryt1955

The new form is better! I also curious about this Cluster Stuff and wonder if they make a little muslin cover to contain the stuff??

True

Carolmarie thanks!
